I don't know if this falls into News...but I'd like to see what some other Freep'ers are thinking.
I like Hugh Hewitt's show. I think it's interesting and that Hewitt is a talented guy. I think he has one of the better radio shows out there.
However, his show in the last week or two has become over-run by constant references to his new book "If It's Not Close, They Can't Cheat".
I haven't read the book yet (I 've heard some good reviews - not surprisingly from those on the right) but the self-promotion over-kill has got to be the worst I've ever seen on a radio talk show.
Has anyone else noticed this?
I dunno know . . . about that book but maybe you need to read between the lines. The truthis out there!
Every single talk radio host has a book and they pitch it constantly when it comes out - Hannity does it much more than Hewitt. But they all do it: Limbaugh, Savage, Ingrahm...
Hewitt said he'd pump it on his show for two weeks, then let it go... I think the two weeks are up, so we'll see if he's true to his word.
As much as I appreciate most of these guys, I've grown to hate this book-hawking crap. Reminds me of the t-shirt salesmen you used to see outside concerts.
Maybe if Katie, Diane and Hannah had Hewitt on their shows to promote his book, he wouldn't have to do it on his own show. Ya think?
I plan to buy and read his book and then pass it on to other family members.
Besides, he does it all with good humor and believe me, he will get obsessed with something else very soon...
Apparently it's working because his book is climing up the best seller list.
I AGREE! And guess what KRLA in Los Angeles did? Postponed the third hour (5 p.m.) of Hugh's show to rebroadcast at 8 p.m., and replaced it with the Guy Who Gives Conservatives a Bad Name, Michael Savage. *sigh* Everytime I listen to MS, thinking, "I'll give him a chance, he can't be popular for nothing ..." he proves himself to be an arrogant, juvenile, emotion-driven twit. Comparing Michael Savage to Hugh Hewitt is like comparing a Yugo to a Rolls Royce. There is no comparison. Yet KRLA persists, with teasers that talk about how we need to listen to him "... enraging the Savage nation." Rage should be left to the left ... thoughtful maturity is embodied in Hugh Hewitt. He also has wonderful guests hosts, like Mark Larson.
You got that right. If I wanted to turn anyone off to conservative thought, I'd steer them towards Savage.
Relax there buddy. Hugh is doing it to the point of being annoying on purpose. Last week he asked his sub for 29 references to the book during the three hours. His sub wasn't sure if he'd be able to do it.
Yes, I know it's alot but he's pretty lighthearted about it.
Hugh Hewitt rocks.
Really? I didn't know that.
I don't listen every day so I wasn't aware that the hyping of the book is somewhat of a joke.
Well, you may be turned off by the over-the-top self promotion, but it's working.
A personal ancedote:
Mr. Hewitt was in town on Friday to sign copies of "If It's Not Close, They Can't Cheat: Crushing the Democrats in Every Election and Why Your Life Depends Upon It" at a local bookstore. The sponsoring radio station and the bookstore expected about 500 people. They stopped counting after the count reached 1200. It's not a bad read either, although much of the advice might not be needed to most FR readers. (It's about 1/3 history of Democratic abuses, 1/3 "What you can do to beat them" and 1/3 appendices. Hey, I was in line for 4 1/2 hours. I had time to read it.)
It's not necessarily a joke but he does it knowing it's probably bugging most of his listening audience. :)
Did you know that?
