I believe that Ann's column would fall into the category of sarcasm. I see why USA spiked it, its a little over the edge but puts such a dagger of truth into their hearts they couldn't stand it. I believe she twisted the dagger just a little.

Any readers who aren't conservative would view Ann's piece as reinforcing their view that conservatives are mean-spiritted name-callers who make fun of their opponents but have nothing truthful of substance to say. I for one am glad they spiked Coulter's column, since to 75% of USA Today's readership it would have simply made conservatives look bad.
