THOUSANDS RALLY TO SUPPORT BUSH ON MARRIAGE IN NYC
WMCA-NY ^ | 7.25.2004

NEW YORK - Thousands gathered at New York City hall park yesterday to renew their marriage vows and make a pro-active and positive statement that marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman.

The effort brought together the largest coalition of churches in New York ever in support of a single matter. The Church of God In Christ, a predominantly black denomination, CONLICO - the largest coalition of hispanic churches in NYC, and the City Covenant Coaliton all combined forces and efforts to get out the message - marriage is sacred, and God designed it as a lasting covenant between one man and one woman.

The day was set aside by church leaders across New York as a way for married couples to repent of actions that have weakened their own marriages and to strive to make their individual marriages - examples to their own communities.

Church leaders held a press conference just before the renewal ceremony - and that was followed by speeches from some public officials who have been battling special interests in order to keep marriage defined as it has been known since the beginning of time.

Clergy took the first steps in renewing their vows, then led the renewing of marriage vows ceremony for the rest who were in attendance.

WOW! That's a great idea. Sure is. The question is, HOW CAN WE GET THIS TYPE OF ACTIVITY INTO SOME BATTLEGROUND STATES? I thank God for the Church of God in Christ ministers taking a stand as well as the other organizations. This is an issue where we can make in-roads into the black community. While I appreciate this rally in NY, we need to get black voters, who feel strongly about this issue, active in other states where the vote will be close i.e. Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to name a few. So, HOW DO WE DO IT?

You gotta get the right people together. Get Church of God in Christ ministers who have done it, give out the info on ministers in the other states. Promote it. Do this about a 100 times over and you'll get some action. Talk it up in your own church. Find like minded people and get their help.
