"Remember John Carlin served at the Governor's meetings as the same time as Clinton in the early 80's.."

I think Carlin also lost a senate race after his tenure as dem governor. The word used back in mid 70's was "networking", just like the computer world is a tangled web so are the "net-workers" from back in the 70's from Watergate to-date.

Apparently Carlin's qualifications for this job were questionable. And while the Dems are making a stink about 43's nominee, they didn't say jack about Toon's. From this link:

AMERICAN LIBRARIES REPORTS THAT NINE PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS of archivists and historians are asking the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs to schedule hearings on the qualifications of Allen Weinstein, President Bush's nominee to be Archivist of the United States.

What were the qualifications of the present Archivist of the United States, John W. Carlin, when he was appointed by President Clinton 9 years ago? Mr. Carlin's archival and historical experience is outlined in his official biography:
Before becoming Archivist, Mr. Carlin had a distinguished career in public service, business, agriculture and education. A native Kansan, he served in the state legislature for eight years and was Speaker of the House his last term. In 1978 he was elected Governor of Kansas, and served two four-year terms. Following his political career, Mr. Carlin joined the faculty of Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, teaching graduate courses in public administration. He was Chief Executive Officer of Midwest Superconductivity in Lawrence, KS, when appointed Archivist of the United States.

It is one thing for President Clinton to appoint a Democratic politician to the position of Archivist of the United States, it seems, but quite another for President Bush to nominate the director of a nonpartisan nonprofit foundation.

This guy really needs to be subpoenaed.

Archivist of the United States John W. Carlin was pushed by the White House in December to submit his resignation without being given any reason, Senate Democrats disclosed last week at a hearing to consider President Bush's nomination of his successor. The Democrats said the White House should explain why it asked Carlin to resign.

Instead of explaining, why not just declare him an enemy combatant and send him to Gitmo?

If the Dems had functioning brains in their pointed little heads they'd realize they're better off not knowing...

Why does an archivist get fired, but Berger does not get arrested?

If they arrested Berger at the time they wouldn't have been able to get the court order to bug his phones and offices to catch his co-conspirators.

I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope.

I'd have a lot of questions for Carlin. And the more I google, the more questions I have.

Hell, they can ask (and pretend they're good) but if you're already planning to let people skate, there's no point to it. Over and over, Clinton folks got to skate and if they didn't, he gave them a pardon on his last day in office....as well as his own sweet deal.

I don't think they'll do anything before the election. But afterwards...

We need to find the Berger/Carlin connection...things that they engaged in together. Conspiracy probably applies. Does this archivist have access to ALL COPIES/ORIGINALS no matter where they are stored??

Exactly, the dems have got to be squirming, especially after the Mrs. Kerry tells a reporter of a "right wing rag" to "shove it".

This is going to be a great week!!!!

Well, we can figure Toon put Carlin there for a reason. Probably more than one reason. Hopefully someone's looking.

Speaking of changes to be made for our national security, I suggest we also increase the internal controls over the Achieves. Documents should be inventoried (so if they turn up missing at least we know they existed) and the Achieve room should be monitored better (to stop people from stuffing docs in their soxs).

In addition, I recommend that a higher level of scrutiny should be applied to politicians, especially those of the DemocRAT persuasion.

Who the hell's bright idea was it anyway to trust DemocRATs with national security???

Good catch on the timing!

I have thought from the very start that Berger must have had help from somebody on the inside.

Somebody else on the inside, however, must have tipped off the DOJ to what was going on. Perhaps Carlin was a little careless and assumed all the other archivists would go along with what he was doing (because it probably had Clinton's imprimatur on it) - but somebody didn't like it, or perhaps even a very non-senior person was uneasy at being told to break the rules.

Executive Order Further Amendment to Executive Order 12958, As Amended, Classified National Security Information

March 25, 2003

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to further amend Executive Order 12958, as amended, it is hereby ordered that Executive Order 12958 is amended to read as follows:

"Classified National Security Information

This order prescribes a uniform system for classifying, safeguarding, and declassifying national security information, including information relating to defense against transnational terrorism. Our democratic principles require that the American people be informed of the activities of their Government. Also, our Nations progress depends on the free flow of information. Nevertheless, throughout our history, the national defense has required that certain information be maintained in confidence in order to protect our citizens, our democratic institutions, our homeland security, and our interactions with foreign nations. Protecting information critical to our Nations security remains a priority.

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Boy, I'm sitting here scratching my head over why the guy would be asked to resign. Do you suppose it had anything to do with documents being taken from the national archives by a former administration employee? Wonder how many employees told him about the missing documents and he did nothing?
