Puget Sound FReeper Party with Jim Robinson
That's right! Jim Robinson, founder of FRee Republic, & family will be in town to party with us!

DATE: Sunday August 8, 2004

TIME: Party begins at 2:00

WHAT : BBQ Potluck - family & kids welcome.

Due to construction delays at the home of Seattle, the party has been moved to another place. YEAH! (Seattle has promised us a holiday party ;)

WHERE: South Sound - FReepmail me for details :) LOL Don't want the great unwashed turning up...

WHAT TO BRING:

Meat to BBQ and a side dish (appetizer, salad, or dessert)

I will provide soda, ice, some wine, coffee, condiments and fresh veggie stuff for hamburgers and marshmallows. If you need buns for hotdogs or burgers, let me know, I am happy to provide. :) Billthedrill has been hard at work brewing, but you are welcome to bring other beers/wine if you wish.

Please RSVP if possible - it helps me figure out how much I need to buy. :) IF you know your side dish, let me know.

I'll set up a croquet course in case any of our FReepers make it out of the computer room - LOL. I have a site on which we can upload photos, so come with your high tech gear to post a live thread :)

Cheers and looking forward to seeing you!

PS Live on the East side and want to come too? You're invited. FReepmail me for hotel suggestions or just drive on in!

I may have to get the beer over there on Saturday - I'm working all weekend (rebuilding four mail servers) and don't want to turn up late with five cases of warm beer. Got a lovely dark ale, an amber, and lastly a weird IPA that got carmelized in the brewing so isn't as "pale" as you'd expect - it's quite traditional, actually - and I give it its first taste...today...

Please FReepmail me the directions as it's been awhile... see ya there...

IPA? Is that anything like an IPO?

Actually, it is. Give me all of your money and watch what you get in return go into the toilet.

Sorry...bitter shareholder here...

It's an India Pale Ale, so named because they used to brew barrels of the stuff in Old Blighty and ship it round the Horn to Injah. In order to make that trip without refrigeration it had to be (1) high in alcohol, and (2) hopped enough to crinkle yer nose hair.

It wasn't really that "pale" by modern standards, since what most people are used to these days is straw-colored pisswater that isn't even high enough in alcohol to make you forget that it comes from a horse's kidneys.

Anyways, in brewing the extra-light malt interacted with the two-row Bavarian stuff I was using for flavor and it "carmelized," or darkened, so it's actually darker than the amber that I'm bringing along as well. Haven't done a final gravity on it yet - it's still bottle-conditioning - but I expect it to come in at the high 6% range for alcohol content. Be careful with it.

I'll treat it with the proper respect. (And see if I can pilfer a few bottles for home use.)
