Skunk Gel Repels Drug Users, Prostitutes
Associated Press ^ | July 24, 2001

Drug users and prostitutes are turning up their noses at the condemned buildings they once frequented in Richland County. Deputies here have begun using a chemical spray that makes the places smell like a skunk has come calling.

Skunk Shot, made in New Zealand, contains synthetic skunk oil in a gel-like substance and was originally intended as a cat and dog repellent.

It's a stinking solution for a disturbing problem in some neighborhoods. Vagrants' use of the buildings has taken a nose dive, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.

"In the 11 places we've used it, it has been very successful," said Lott, who ordered 10 tubes of gel at $14.95 each in January.

Richland County sheriff's Cpl. Danny Brown spends part of his time spreading the stink in buildings that owners say they want to stop trespassers from visiting.

interesting. I will try to remember.

I Note - brake cleaning not brake fluid.

BTW - brake fluid is a great paint remover.

TRILE.org - One 20 ml tube treats 5,000 sq feet - $19.95 +$2.00 shipping. Knock yourself out (so to speak)!

The story mentions Lt. Shaun Mathers, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, brother of Jerry Mathers, no lie!

I suppose because the absentee owners of the property will not consent to have the buildings torn down, at a guess.

Formula 409 has killed everything that I have sprayed it on, so far.

Speaking of bug death, I recently moved from California to Northern Virginia. I saw some kind of a bug walking up the wall next to the computer in the living room one night. As I was looking for some handy implement with which to flatten it, it took wing, and headed off towards the kitchen. As it passed over my head, it emitted a cheery, neon-green *blink*. A firefly! They're different, to me. They won't sting or bite just to be ornery- they'd really rather just be outside in the humidity. I scooped him up and paroled him off of the balcony, and have rescued others from the indoor stairwell outside my apartment door.

It may be inconsistant, but in my apartment, some bugs are vermin to me, and others are little buddies to be preserved and gently transported outdoors where possible.

We do have yellowjackets in Virginia. I had an infestation in my kids' wall a couple of years ago, they ate through the plaster. We had no idea until my son told me there was a wet spot on the wall, and the paper had ripped, and he could see eyes and antennae, which got my attention!

Feeling brave, I tried cutting the outer layer of paper on the drywall, and had to run and slam the door behind when they came out at me!

Several year old yellow jacket nest between the drywall and the siding, many layers of nest, they even ate the fiberglass insulation! Like something from a science fiction movie!

When I went to buy poison, the lady at Fischer Hardware said a lot of people had similar stories.

they have - some kind of foul admixture in powder form administered via .68 caliber paintball (for relative prescision and minimal blowback risk to the officers)

There are flying insect sprays that spray many feet, maybe 50? or 100? and promise to kill on contact. Use that. Getting stung is awful and they keep stinging, not like bees, which can only sting once.

Man, I just hate those god-darned, high falutin', effete drug addicts and prostitutes.

Will any living accommodations ever meet their exacting specifications?

Like I always said: "If it's good enough for Al Gore's tenants, than it's good enough for a fi' dolla ho!"

Clitus, the slack-jawed yokel:

What he durn said. Dems what smarts you gets with book learnin'! Ain't at right Brandeen?

I haven't seen them like we had in California, where if you stand still somewhere for a few minutes, they're doing that hostile weaving hover right in your face. Nasty things.

I hate Yellowjackets.

"Actually, that's a pretty good idea, and would be a great 'special forces' type project, to make skunk oil grenades, and just toss them into each of the caves in Afghanistan."
Since one could not expect that these caves come with sanitary facilities, you might even be giving them air freshener. But one could use vomit gas (it is poisonous, but none of the bad guys would be any loss anyway) grenades.

Yellow jacket larve makes great bluegill bait, we would smoke them and knock down the nest and the bait comes in its' own container.
