I don't have a problem with having a Bible study at a place like Hoooters or any restaurant for that matter however I find it odd the they brag about a Bible study that "doesn't focus on the Bible".

I see you're new here, FRiend, but there are rules pertaining to this type of post.  Rules unspoken, but rules none the less.

I have to agree. The Bible is the sword of the armor of the Christian and without it he cannot fight the good fight. This is Gods Word to us and if we rely on our own strength we will fail as surely as Adam.

I am just aghast.

What next? Viewing "The Passion" at the local "Centerfolds" Gentleman's Club?

We've come here because people would be more likely to respond to an invitation when they're comfortable," said group leader Rick Lamborn of the nonprofit organization.

If 'Hooters" were the only possible place to meet...I would agree...but if people study God's word and are 'comfortable' at Hooters......there is something amiss...with their "comfort detection devices"

imo

Hehehe... its not the "eye candy" that draws people to Hooters, its the world famous chicken wings. Yeah that goes well with a prayer. LOL

Kind of hard to focus on the Bible (or anything else) at Hooters (see pictures above). Too much "distraction".

It is not really that complicated.
It is like a "flow chart"
The first rule is " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
Then, you go to the Commandments. Such as Thou shall not commit adultry (Flip side--would you want to be the one who found out your spouse was committing adultry?)Back to " What would it feel like if someone did it to you?"

Jesus was not accepted by those He was sent to minister to and Save. So, he saved people like Lepers ( OH, MY! UNCLEAN!) The Centurion's Daughter ( REMEMBER: Romans were OCCUPIERS of Israel)and took a Tax Collecter ( the lowest form of life in those days ) as a Disciple.

If I lived close to this Hooter's, I'd go too.

Why would anyone want to go to a Bible Study at Hooters? The food is terrible, the waitresses look like prostitutes. It doesn't make sense.

Well, it's time for the argument about whether this is a valid form of outreach or not. It's probably also time for a discussion of whether eating at Hooters is a sin.

For myself, I'm curious whether this study will bear fruit. It shouldn't take very long to determine whether the approach is valid. Between now and then it's reasonable to reserve judgement of any kind and let the leaders do the work they feel called to do.

Shalom.

Why do I get the impression there is a high distraction quotient at these things?

Because Christianity rejects overt sexuality...

yeah, outside of a covenant marital relationship. Not in general. Hard to argue back against this statement because it's so vaguely worded...

Good point. There are too many distractions at Hooters to focus on the Word. They don't focus on the Bible at this Bible study anyway.

The Hooters sessions are less focused on the Bible, but in other sessions it is a central element.

After I read this article, the first question that came to my mind was, why Hooters? If you want to discuss some scripture passages or study the Bible in depth, why not go to a coffee shop? Why would Hooters make some folks more relaxed? And if that's the case, why not hold Bible studies in the local topless joint?

I would think he meant they didn't bring Bibles, but had discussions...it is odd, but hey if it works to get them to church that would be something.
