Nation's Longest Running Column Changing Guard; Jack Anderson Retires; Douglas Cohn and Eleanor Clift Share Byline
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2004--"Washington Merry-Go-Round" by Jack Anderson and Douglas Cohn, the nation's longest running newspaper column, is changing bylines.
The column, founded by Drew Pearson in 1932, was carried on by Jack Anderson, who joined Pearson in 1947, and by Douglas Cohn, who joined Anderson in 1999. Anderson, 81, who is suffering from Parkinson's disease, has retired from the column, and is being replaced by Eleanor Clift, who has served as "Washington Merry-Go-Round's" political correspondent for several years.
Cohn and Clift, who have been writing the column for the last five years, are two of Washington's most noted journalists. Cohn is a 1968 graduate of West Point, who was retired for wounds received while serving as an infantry platoon leader in Vietnam. He has been working with Anderson for the last 18 years and was his partner for the last five years. Clift, a regular on TV's "The McLaughlin Group", is a contributing editor for "Newsweek", where she previously served as the magazine's White House correspondent.
Cohn is the author of "Jackson's Valley Campaign with Maps from the West Point Atlas of the Civil War" and Clift is the author of "Founding Sisters and the Nineteenth Amendment".
Cohn and Clift will continue their hard-hitting analytical column that has gained a reputation for insight, historical analogy, and interesting twists overlooked by other writers such as their exposure of the stock market's burgeoning short-selling scandal. The column is syndicated by U.S. News Syndicate, Inc., (http://www.usnewssyndicate.com) in McLean, Va.
Does anybody know what sort of job he did on the Valley Campaign?
They're ALL related.
Wow, I didn't know that.
Was he blue or gray?
Eleanor Clift is so full of hate it's doing her more harm than any she can spread!
If Bush wins and the Dems can't steal it and intmidate judges by sparking inner-city riots I expect mass suicides and a lot of crying.
A seamless transition, content-wise.
Eleonor is still wearing her knee pads and praying for an interview with Bill Clinton.

They are the Enemy Within!!!!
Cohn is an ass. I hope y'all don't mind me posting this, but I think what Doug Cohn is doing is just plain wrong.

"Despite the suit against us, Our-Street.com continues to file complaints with the SEC as we discover more evidence. Additionally, H-Quotient recently filed suit against an individual named Max Jones aka Jigfish for posting criticisms on one of the internet message boards.
Not only that, this is not the first time he has done this against Mr. Jones. He previously filed suit but never followed up as far as we can see. We find this kind of harassing behavior abhorrent. It is one thing to sue a watchdog like Our-Street.com who is visible and does this work publicly for a living. That is a risk I accepted when I started this site. It is something else entirely to sue Mr. Jones for exercising his Constitutional Right to free speech. From everything I have seen, all he did was express his opinion in criticizing the company and its officers.
We have been somewhat reserved in our posting and our activity with HQNT ever since being sued by Doug. This wasn't because we were afraid, we simply wanted to be deliberate in our actions. However, when we discovered this suit against against Jones, we decided this was too important an issue it was time to let our feelings be known on the subject so we revisited the issue.
From activity on the message board where Jones was posting, it appears as if many Free Speech advocates have also shown up to Max's support in his time of trouble and that a lot of due diligence effort appears to be being aimed at HQNT and Doug Cohn. This is the kind of support that the market needs to take back our street and to put a stop to this kind of behavior and to protect your right to express your opinion freely.
We understand Jones has filed a motion to dismiss and hopefully that will end it for that suit. If we are able to get a copy, we will post it here. In the interim, we will continue to aggressively pursue the answers and documents we have asked for in our suit with HQNT and are confident we will prove all our allegations were right on.
Our-Street.com applauds all those who have taken the time to come to the support of Mr. Jones."
