Denzel Washington Re:Moore 9-11,"I'm an Ex-slave"
Katie Couric interview Friday night tv | 7/23/04 | sunnsydie

Posted on 07/23/2004 5:53:33 PM PDT by SunnySide

Katie Couric asked Denzel Washington if he likes to keep his politics private, He said he's not one of those people. He does speak his mind.

Couric asked Denzel, Did you see Moores movie 9-11?

Denzel, "I didn't see it, I live in America, I grew up here, I'm an ex-slave"

Whaaaaa?! Really?! Denzel, do you even know what a slave is? Have you ever worked on a plantation, prepared meals for an entire household? Driven Miss Daisy? Ugh another dillentante entertainer posturing as a martyr to the masses who puts his silver foot in his obnoxioulsy opinionated mouth. He wouldn't even allow Meryl Streep to get her opinion in edge wise.

Mr.Denzel, YOU are nothing but an obnoxiously opinionated MALE CHAUVINISTIC PIG. How many women have you punked on the sly behind your wifes back? About the closet you probably ever came to being a slave was being asked to take out the kitchen trash by your own mother and I'm certain you did that with bitter contempt too. Lose the huge chip on your shoulder Denzel. Nobody likes a wealthy pouter. And YOU are a Hollywood person wether YOU like it or not. Yes YOU too are subject to labels. Slave my hiney. Indeed, your remark is a disgrace to every slave in the history of the world. Slaves still exist today in Africa held captive by other Africans. Get over yourself Denzel.

LOL! Well, that's a bit different. I've served in that kind of slavery too. Now I'm on the other side of the whip. I work for the state.

Well, I just hope you have taken the proper precautions. Watching that stuff can cause your head to explode. You will most certainly need these items, at the very least:

I saw the interview and I thought he said, " I come from ex-slaves".

He gave Meryl the 'what for' after she went on and on about Bush and his faith. She started quoting the bible saying that in the New Testament it talks about 'turning the other cheek' and a bunch of other garbage. Denzel stops her and says, "Meryl have you actually read the New Testament...because I have!" LOL!

Katie jumped on him said something like...'as an actor...do you'...he stopped her and said...'I am a human who acts...acting is my occupation....it is not what defines me.' :o

Denzel also said he thinks that every person coming home from Iraq should get a "hero's welcome" and that he is ashamed of people who think otherwise.

I was kind of surprised at Denzel. He verbally bitch-slapped Meryl...remaining reserved and cool...trying not to roll his eyes...hahah! Jonathan Demme just sat there watching the sparks....saying something occasionally about the movie.

This 'x-slave' is off my movie list. If in his lifetime he was owned, how did he miss out on receiving the freedoms bestowed upon every native born American as their Creator derived birthright?

Further, if as he declares he is an x-slave, I want to know who owned him. Who was his master?

His self-serving mordacious arrogance can only come from one who can not look his fellow Negroes in the eye without feeling compelled to shifting the focus away from his wealth and accomplishments by waving a whole-cloth banner proclaiming he's an 'x-slave'. Any double IQ ( most of America, IMHO ) knows he is lying through his teeth.

Why is it some successful Negroes feel it necessary to make blatantly false and divisive public statements, which only add to the smoke and mirrors created by race dividers like Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the rest of the 'x-slaves' who have made a lucrative career perpetuating blind emotions of race hatred?

I don't see why everybody is in arms about this stupid ex-slave comment, you jump on him for doing something respectable and he mentions slavery and everybody wigs out. Sweetliberty and everyone else who is bothered by that is only underlining a big problem in America of extreme sensitivity.

....you jump on him for doing something respectable....

When did it become respectable to lie?

What deprivations did this 'x-slave' encounter in his rise to fame and fortune?

His self-defacing manipulation of reality is an insult to the America, and will result in a just conclusion!

The ....extreme sensitivity.... you write about:

Define the absence of sensitivity when a Negro calls another Negro the 'N' word, and the ....extreme sensitivity.... exhibited if a caucasion uses the same word.

Why is a double standard imposed?

If the 'N' word is not appropriate for a caucasion to speak or write, equity would require the same rule apply to Negroes. Perhaps you disagree?

Or some of us ex-serfs. Still --- since he didn't see 9-11 --- I wonder what he meant by saying he is an ex-slave

Could it be that he has reached the point where he no longer has to be a slave to Hollywood dogma?

Statement: "Denzel, "I didn't see it, I live in America, I grew up here, I'm an ex-slave""

Response: Isn't the proper term "freedman."
