Bill Maher --- In general, it is the dumbest part of the county [The South]

When asked by a caller how we could get Southern voters to vote for a democrat again, "Comic" Bill Maher just went on the following tirade against the South, Christians and Second Amendment patriots:
You know, that's a sore point with me in the South, the way they have a stranglehold on the electorate because... excuse me... and I love playing the red states, because when I play the red states in my stand-up act, you know, I get all the people who don't usually have someone like me come to their state, so there's a great bonding. And I feel for them, because there's a lot of smart people in the South. But in general, it is the dumbest part of the country.
Excuse me. It is. And also, they're the super patriots - the one part of the country that ever actually seceeded. The one part of the country that ever actually committed treason. And they seem to lead in how we are supposed to think. Because they are more religious. They are more "patriotic". And... umm.. I think it's just a a disservice to our...
Larry King: You think in modern day America, you can still claim a whole region is dumber than another reigon?
Maher: They lead the region in dumbness, yes they do. Because they, there's too many people that just think every problem can be solved by either more guns or more Jesus. And like I said, I'm with the people who are following their compass; not with the people who are reading the entrails of the chicken. They are the people who are reading the entrails of the chicken.

Because they, there's too many people that just think every problem can be solved by either more guns or more Jesus. I hate to tell you, but this is exactly the attitude most Californians - even "moderate Republicans" - have toward the South. I've no doubt it's the prevalent feeling in the Northeast, as well. There's something about a southern accent that just instantly triggers a "You dumbass!" attitude in people here - that's the main reason Bush is so unpopular in the blue states. Give him a "newscaster accent" and perfect diction and I believe he would get 60% of the nationwide vote in November without changing a single policy position.

By the way, can anyone tell me how to get these pasted quotes into italics. Every time I paste, it turns the text back to normal....work with me I am relatively new to Free Republic. You have to put the letter I inside those pointy quotation marks at the beginning of the quote and a forward slash and an I inside the pointy quotation marks at the end of the quote. Hope this helps.

I got in on this late but just had to say the more these Kerry supporters say and do things like that the more people they lose.Democrat southerners don't like to be called dumb either.

Most Michiganders I think are smarter than that. I certainly hope so.

Amen to that brother! He's a cretin who will suckle at the teats of the socialist swines in the Democratic Party. Or as Vladimir Ilyich Lenin aptly named them, "USEFUL IDIOTS".

Lord love a duck...we must not worry of what old Bill has to say about us southerners. We may be the only folks who he can be so mean spirited about without repercussions, but he doesn't know what we know. Only folks who are secure in their uniqueness can make fun of themselves. And we southerners do, even on this thread. The joke is on him.LOL

You know, listening to Bill Maher, one would think that
every Southerner is a hard core redneck, barefoot and
pregnant, uneducated, and backward etc.. That is so far
from the truth. We can go anywhere in the U.S.A.
and find problems. Unfortunately, everything being
equal, is not, and never will be.

I have no idea what ever happened to modesty in young women. Most, but not all, of them look, act and dress like sluts, then can't figure why they get no respect. "belly girl" is a good example.

Maher said that, huh? We Southerners must be doing something right, then.
And we don't read the entrails. We EAT them! Livers, hearts, gizzards... yum.

There's something about a southern accent that just instantly triggers a "You dumbass!" attitude in people here - that's the main reason Bush is so unpopular in the blue states. Then why was Bill Clinton from Arkansas with his hillbilly ways and accent so revered by California and East Coast liberals? The Hollywood crowd worshipped Clinton and some idiots claimed he was such a clever man. Bush has a Texas drawl which is different and LBJ --- also liked by liberals had one.
