9/11 REPORT: DOCS STOLEN BY BERGER MAY REFUTE INFAMOUS "MISSED HIM BY 10 MINUTES" CLAIM
Hugh Hewittt / Instapundit ^ | 7/22/04 | JustOneMinute blogs

46. NSC email, Clarke to Kerrick,“Timeline,”Aug. 19, 1998; Samuel Berger interview (Jan. 14, 2004). We did not find documentation on the after-action review mentioned by Berger. On Vice Chairman Joseph Ralston’s mission in Pakistan, see William Cohen interview (Feb. 5, 2004). For speculation on tipping off the Taliban, see, e.g., Richard Clarke interview (Dec. 18, 2003).

And to what does footnote (46) refer? On p. 117, Chapter 4, we find this:

Later on August 20, Navy vessels in the Arabian Sea fired their cruise missiles. Though most of them hit their intended targets, neither Bin Ladin nor any other terrorist leader was killed. Berger told us that an after-action review by Director Tenet concluded that the strikes had killed 20–30 people in the camps but probably missed Bin Ladin by a few hours. Since the missiles headed for Afghanistan had had to cross Pakistan, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs was sent to meet with Pakistan’s army chief of staff to assure him the missiles were not coming from India. Officials in Washington speculated that one or another Pakistani official might have sent a warning to the Taliban or Bin Ladin. (46)

The 9/11 Commission timing is perfect for the old Clintonista document/scandal dump tomorrow, since tomorrow is a Friday, after all.

That gives the public the weekend to forget about what they read on Friday.

I actually got one of those Mediterranean Atkins wraps. It is way to hot here to cook so I am living on Subway and Quiznos (which was just opened). I love subs.

Back to topic: The more information that gets out, the more questions I have. What bugs me is the the MSM doesn't report any of this. We get it all here, on the Internet, talk radio and sometimes Fox. Now we have to put up with their convention next week and all of this will go bye-bye.

I understand the librarians at the Nat'l Archives were suspicious and kept Sandyburger under surveillance.

If that is true, then they had better have made backup copies of every single document that Burglar took (scribbled notes and all), or something is really rotten here.

It's now known how many different documents Berger stole which he destroyed...

I'm, more worried about something he may have taken and replaced with an innocuous dummied-up facsimile. Why else would he need pics? They ought to test every doc Berger might have had access to and see if the paper and/or ink differs from papers of the same vintage that Berger didn't have access to.

I suppose these guys will never tell the truth. I also wonder what he destroyed. Just like Hitlery and Bill.

Choose the rotten door. Documents this classified are not copied without serious reason. The number of copies in existence is carefully recorded. Berg(l)er knew exactly how many copies existed, and he apparently took them all.

I saw Joew DiGenova on FNC yesterday, and he said these docs are so classified they are like the crown jewels of national security. Something about the docs being classified as "code word", whatever that means. Anyone know?

Yea and not only that I read one account where he asked the minders to leave so he could make important phone calls right from the secured reading room!

Hello Bill, Sandy, Now which docs were you wanting?

If I recall from Derelication of Duty .. Berger was trying to get a hold of Clinton .. at first Clinton was avoiding his calls . eventually he took them .. but then suggest someone else for input and advice

HOWEVER, I seem to be thinking of a different strike

I'm to the point, my brain is in overload and I'm mixing things up

Have you seen this...

Reckless Disregard, the powerful new book by Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson, the decorated Air Force officer and pilot who carried the nuclear codes -- American's nuclear strike capabilities -- for President Bill Clinton.
