Caplan argues that the FDA could relax some of the restrictions, thus increasing the number of qualified donors. "What possible reason would we have to defer donors who have not converted to AIDS since 1977?" he asks. "The disease has no such incubation period. Moreover, we can reliably detect anyone exposed to HIV within a year after the exposure." He suggests that instead of disqualifying those people forever, asking them not to donate for three years after engaging in risky behavior would achieve the same level of safety.

It is as I thought, yet another attempt by the Homosexual Agenda to deny that they spread AIDS and represent a danger when they are mixed in with the rest of society. They've been trying for years to have questions about their deviance dropped from blood screenings. I am becoming convinced that their goal is to increase HIV/AIDS infections among the heterosexual community. After all, they never stop "engaging in risky behavior" until they die, do they? Anyone foolish enough to believe they'd tell the truth when asked such questions? Want to risk the life of someone you care about to prove it?

A freelance writer from Mexico quoting all sorts of folks with all sorts of agenda...Look I give blood every chance that I can.No I do not donate to the ARC I choose instead to give to a local hospital's blood bank. The idea that we should allow just anyone to donate to he blood supply will end up with the US looking just like Canada....If you engage in risky behaviour you can't donate...Life's tough get a helmet

men who have had sexual relations with other men since 1977; women who have had sex with a man who has had sex with another man since 1977

You know, I’m totally comfortable with leaving that restriction exactly as it is.

Testing schmesting.

Speaking as one who only recently received 5 transfusions following major surgery, I would prefer that all blood donations be made under the strictest conditions with as many prejudicial qualifications as possible.

As one afflicted with cancer, pneumonia and pleurisy, the last thing I need is some chump to donate blood infected with some other disease.

Is that too much to ask?

Well? IS IT?
