Speaking as one who only recently received 5 transfusions following major surgery, I would prefer that all blood donations be made under the strictest conditions with as many prejudicial qualifications as possible.

As one afflicted with cancer, pneumonia and pleurisy, the last thing I need is some chump to donate blood infected with some other disease.

Is that too much to ask?

Well? IS IT?

It could be. It depends on the avaiable blood supply. If there is a surge in demand, and the supply is too small because of overly restrictive screening questions, folks like you could find yourselves receiving blood transfusions only after all otherwise healthy trauma victims had first priority for blood tranfusions. I don't know if you read all the comments on the thread, but blood is tested for HIV, hepatitis B & C virus, HTLV-I, cytomegalovirus and syphilis after the donors pass the screening questions, IIRC.
