Parr Lumber, a family owned company for more than 74 years, has based its business on the principles of respecting our employees, offering advancement opportunities and rewarding them with excellent wages and benefits. Im Nate Bond, as a longtime Parr employee and former Teamster member, I have benefited from these values. That is why it is so disheartening to watch my former Union display a willingness to misrepresent Parrs current contract proposals.
The union would have you believe that its all about take aways. Not true - the real issue is mandatory union membership.
As a result, the union is attempting to block Parrs proposals that would offer many benefits to our employees. A proposal that would bring our union employees in line with our non-union employees, raising the average full-scale compensation package above $50,000 a year - a 14% increase over 2001.
A proposal that would offer a better retirement program.
A proposal that continues to provide healthcare benefits above industry standards. We believe if the Teamsters would focus more on the real issues, rather than conducting a deceptive and misleading campaign, their members and our employees would be better served.

I heard the radio piece this morning on AM 1190. The Union is clearly encouraging customers to abandon Parr for their courageous stance against the strong-arm extortion rackets that Union labor has imposed on the private sector. Union influence this election season could decide the outcome of this nation's future; its safety, and security and the nature of civilized (or maloevolent) political discourse in this Republic. Few of those institutions represent the Conservative values of a majority of their representative employess and the customers, instead extorting millions of dollars from hard-working individuals to be channelled as graft into the pockets of Leftist politicians intent on destroying the Capitalist underpinnings of freedom.
Let your dollar decide what values you choose. If the Union wants those dollars, let them ask for them. But, as long as they extract the product of one's efforts by force, they have no legitimate place in a free society that honors an individual's ownership of life, liberty, and property and the choices that effect them.

I'm here, at my computer, surrounded by Parr lumber.
It's a good company. I hope the unions don't mess it up.
Thanks for the ping.
I'm glad to see an OR ping list. ;o)

More often than not, the Unions destroy good companies. When I was working my way through high school (above minimum wage), a grocery-worker's union attempted to force itself on the employees of H.E.B. (Texas version of Fred Meyer). It took an open public meeting and about 5 minutes for corporate representatives to prove they could offer employees far more than the Unions.
I applaud Parr's stance. I have not been a regular customer in the past. I will be now.

Hmm! I'd say you may be on to something. After hearing that COSTCO is a huge Kerry supporter, backing him with millions of dollars in contributions, it makes sense why the Left is so friendly with COSTCO while having so much animosity for their primary competitor, WalMart.
Union approach: 'Toe the line and give us money, and we won't destroy your business, hold up your permits, sue you into bankruptcy... and burn down your lumber yards.'
It does make one wonder above the recent suspicious fires at lumber yards in the area as of late.
Watermelon Jihadists and Union Thugs may not be that far apart.

Has anyone heard of an effort by the Local 49 SEIU to organize area DayCare Workers? They stopped by my son's daycare last week trying to churn up interest. From what I have been told, they couldn't clarify what they would offer.
Perhaps that is becuase it is an effort to bring pressure on the entirety of Oregon's private sector.

we occasionally buy from Parr.....No we'll buy EVERYTHING possible from them. We need to reward those who standup against this type of intimidation. Now if only NASCAR, Toyota, etc would do this same w/Jesse Jackson...
