You are probably right for the reason that there won't be anything new to report for quite a while. This is a security investigation. Not the Laci Peterson trial. It is a very serious, professional, structured event. Berger has already lost his access to classified information. If he's found guilty, he'll never regain his access. His career as a Washington Bigwig is over. But Kerry needed a name like his for his campaign. Now all he has is a lingering mud trail. This won't be big news for long, but it is a big blow to the Kerry campaign. And rightly so. Along with the lying Joe Wilson, it is further evidence that Kerry's judgement in picking advisors is suspect.

Kerry told NBC News that he had been unaware Berger was under investigation.

I saw a clip of this on Olberman. It was a Brokaw interview. Kerry said (3 times) "I didn't have a clue".

Lawrence O'Donnell on Scarborough Country tonight said that Sandy Berger is the person who leaked the information about the investigation.

Another "just as we thought". Nice to see it confirmed so quickly. I think since the story began with a statement from Berger and his lawyer, that was the big clue. (We've got clues. Kerry has none.)

This has been ongoing though since OCT 2003 - the only reason Berger would have leaked this now is to try and cut off a possible indictment - no?

My point being - if there is something here the feds are going to do (not the media mind you) it is going to happen sooner ...not later-

The Berger defenders are engaging in clever misdirection with the constant emphasis on the issue of copies, framing the issue as though this was merely a matter of protecting and preserving historical documents instead of protecting the classified data contained in those documents.

Actually, they are digging their own graves. There is a criminal investigation underway. Eventually, if not already, someone is going to mention something that they are not supposed to know about. It is going to be a FUN time in Washington shortly. McAuliffe already gave away the fact that the Dems are scared to death.

Or three: Kerry knew this and had his campaign leak this to the press right before the 9/11 commission releases its report and the DNC convention. That way it is in the news for a few days, then these events suck all the oxygen out of the news cycle. When it comes back into the news when Berger gets charged, the Dems can say that it has been thoroughly vetted and the charges are political.

Years ago, I was an aircraft commander in the Strategic Air Commmand......and accordingly, I dealt with my share of national "secrets"; i.e. highly classified data. I was nowhere NEAR the position of National Security Advisor, and I sure as HELL knew the rules/laws governing the use of classified information.

Bottom line: Sandy Berger is a bald-faced liar. He was deliberately removing classified information from a secured location. What well and truly pisses me off.........FACT.........is that you or I would be clamped in irons by now. This son of a bitch may very well walk strictly because he's a well known Democrat operative.
