New Cuba embargo rules may be bad for Bush
New regulations restricting travel to Cuba from the United States may have gone too far and turned some Cuban-Americans against Bush, lawmakers said Tuesday. The new regulations ... have passed the tipping point in Florida, Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., said during a conference in the Rayburn House Office Building to discuss the current state of U.S. policy toward Cuba. New restrictions from the Bush Administration that went into effect at the end of June limit family visits to Cuba to once every three years rather than annually. The restrictions also limit remittances and what items may be mailed, among other things. Rep. Bill Delahunt, D- Mass., agreed the Cuban-American community in Florida has found a lot to disagree with in the new restrictions. It has been a serious miscalculation by the Bush White House, Delahunt said. Delahunt and Flake participated in a bipartisan effort last year to limit Cuban economic embargo regulations by limiting their funding in the appropriations process. |
This will certainly not win him any voters who otherwise would have voted for Kerry.
It can only lose him voters because the new rules apply to several voters who are directly affected and are pissed.
Not only is is bad policy, but it's horrible politics as well.
Stupid embargo. Get rid of it. Otherwise, stop pussyfooting with Castro go in there and blow him away.
Cuba Libre! - It aint just a drink.
It really would not be that difficult to whack him.
To get from one side of Havana to the other, one must pass through the "tunel" and Fidel passes through it all the time. A few clandestinly placed bombs, and a guy with an eye on his entourage could do it.
Or, we could shoot down his airplane when he goes somewhere, and blame it on the weather or something.
Well, that sure beats trying to make his beard fall out with chemicals or giving him exploding cigars (our CIA at work)...
Well, the CIA has a long history of getting people to rebel after promising them help, then bailing out at the last second. So yeah, what do you expect from them.
