Large HazMat spill reported in the Deer Springs area in northern San Diego County. Highway 15 has been shut down in both directions.
Reports from the scene indicate a 3000 gallon tanker full of a corrosive liquid is outgassing, creating a cloud that's blowing across the freeway.
CHP is reporting difficulty in getting motorists to stop. Multiple drivers have traversed through the cloud.
San Diego TV sites and the California Highway Patrol C.A.D. site would probably be the best way to follow this.
Uh oh...not looking good...either a really big mess or FAR more serious than first thought.....

OK, UN3264 is a generic for n.o.s., (not otherwise specified) acid mix. Don't have a table handy. Those are UN numbers used on the DOT placards. If the exact item doesn't have a specific #, it gets a generic one. I hate numbers, what does a number tell you? What does a number mean when you happen upon a mess and you don't have a library, computer, or friggin' bureaucrat handy?

I am sure they duct taped their cars shut.
KUSI (9)...chemical toxic if inhaled or ingested; evacs for any within 1/2 mile; probably not opening till sometime in the morning
First have to make chemical stable; next offload...both will take a long time.
No significant injuries so far.
Telling morning commuters plan ahead and have another route in the morning and watch news for the latest.
Alternate routes/side streets not moving now either........morning's gonna be REALLY rough...stay off the recommended detour routes...gotta be creative cause now they need detours for detours if they aren't moving! LOL!

Interestingly enough, after opening about 7 something am, they've been closing one lane (northbound) and now COMPLETELY closed northbound again at 2pm PST.
About 9 am they started doing partial lane closures, etc. to move the truck, then discovered another leak. They said they'd close it for 10-15 minutes (entire northbound closure) about 12:15 p.m, but now it's back on CHP as completely closed northbound at 2 something...
(another site also saying possible southbound closures, now, too)
Guess this isn't quite as "resolved" as they had been saying this morning :-(

I never saw anything about a 12-hour closure on the 15. (?)
