Okay, okay, so I unloaded on him. I was seeing red after hearing the news and seeing the NYSlimes bury the story, as if it hadn't happened. Heck, almost everyone buried it. It's just a form letter anyway; I'm guessing they got thousands of emails and calls about their obvious omission.

It is a story without legs. I did not see a word about it in the Newark Star-Ledger this morning.

"The news came in late and editors working then rushed into the paper all they could find out in a hurry -- only a few paragraphs." Suuuuure. That's what they all say.
They'd have found the time had Condoleeze Rice pulled a stunt like this.

It will be the Republicans who will eventually cut Mr. Burglar a free pass on his felony. The Pubbies want to get along with the demoncrats. I figure Senator Hatch for cowardice role.

I just saw a headline on the TV screen on MSNBC saying "Berger Bungle." Bungle? Like dropping the teatray?

I wonder if our "Girlie Men" Republicans will stand up and fight for us or will they crawl back under rocks.

Keep pounding them.
I recently sent a letters complaining about the lack of coverage on the British Intelligence report, the vindication of Bush and proof of Joe Wilson's agenda.
I had asked them when the front page headline would be printed saying "Bush vindicated!".
Within a day they had a Front Page story with a great headline very similar to my suggestion.
No doubt hundreds of people pounded them for their obvious lack of coverage and they acquiesced.

so many credible news outlets have shamed you. pathetic, sorrowful and ho-hum.Unfortunately, this is not true. The NYT is still considered by most journalists to be the pinnacle of journalism.

Got the same letters as everyone else except now Mr. Borders keeps writing me:
I sent an angry email to public@NYTimes.com yesterday.
I received back the following email:
Dear Ms. (Republican Red):
I can understand your reaction. The Berger story was badly underplayed, but not out of any evil intent. The news broke very late last night, and editors rushed just a few paragraphs into the paper -- all they had at the time.
I can assure you that we will be following this news much more fully in tomorrow's paper and thereafter.
Thanks for writing, and for holding us to a high standard.
Best, Bill Borders, senior editor, The New York Times.
Then this morning I received this email from Mr. Borders signed by a Mr. Bovino(?):
Dear Ms. (Republican Red)
The following article may interest you:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/21/politics/campaign/21berger.html
Sincerely,
Arthur Bovino
Office of the Public Editor
I, Ms. Republican Red, wrote back a scathing letter damning the NY Times article. I listed at least 6 inadvertent mistakes in their article.
I just received another reply from Mr. Borders:
Dear Ms.(Republican Red),
Perhaps you overlooked the following graphs:
Mr. Berger also put in his jacket and pants pockets handwritten notes that he had made during his review of the documents, Mr. Breuer said.
I emailed him back that even CNN has three Justice Dept. sources saying that Berger stuffed classified documents into his socks. The NY Time inadvertly left out the socks part.
Waiting for the next reply

I have received similar responses from my paper in Sarasota, FL (very liberal rags here). After trading a few jibes with the Editorial page guy (nothing untoward at all), I did not receive a delivery the following day. Coward!

Here is my letter ...
NYTimes news staff,
I suggest you write a news story on the Sandy Berger breech of national security this way...
Substitute Condolessa Rice for Sandy Berger. Pretend she did what Mr. Berger's attorney said he did. When you finish the article, replace Ms. Rice's name with Sandy Berger, since we know she has too much integrity to do what Mr. Berger did.
Continuing with the 'pretend', just assume Ms. Rice did what Mr. Berger admitted doing and write as many front page stories as you think is fitting. Don't forget to include the Kerry campaign links and the just recently gone missing Berger terror plan on Kerry's website. Maybe 40-50 stories would do, same as the Abu Grab stories seems about right. Just don't forget to replace Ms. Rice's name with Mr. Bergers, just before you put it in print.
The NYTs cavalier attitude to a real breech in national security is akin to the way President Clinton treated the issue. I refuse to think that the NYTs would be so partisan as to ignore a story of this nature on purpose, but I may change my mind.
That ought to help. Get with it guys. Get those emails going over the transom.
BTW, did anybody see the new and improved Botox Kerry tonight? Looks cool. Maybe Drudge will put up a picture.
