Berger Quits as An Adviser To Kerry Ex-Clinton Aide Facing Inquiry Over Papers

By Susan Schmidt Washington Post Staff Writer Wednesday, July 21, 2004; Page A01

Clinton administration national security adviser Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger, under criminal investigation for removing copies of highly classified documents from the National Archives, severed his ties to John F. Kerry's campaign yesterday.

Berger, who has been the subject of an investigation since October, stepped down as Kerry's informal adviser on foreign policy and national security as the campaign moved quickly to stem the unfolding story's political damage.

A government official with knowledge of the probe said Berger removed from archives files all five or six drafts of a critique of the government's response to the millennium terrorism threat, which he said was classified "codeword," the government's highest level of document security.

A Kerry adviser said the expanding controversy convinced the campaign that Berger's departure was essential because of the serious distraction it posed for Kerry in the week before the Democratic Party will nominate him for president.

Wonder where the NY Times will put this tomorrow...

Here's the Wednesday NYT. The article is in the leftmost column. Standard newspaper procedure is to put what it considers the most important story of the day in the rightmost column. So The NYT considers a story about Microsoft adding a dividend to its stock far more important than a gigantic national security breach.

Red... you got that right... but do it on 5 different occassions with most likely video taped evidence of the paper getting hidden. Oh yeah this is big... while people make jokes of socks this will be bigger than watergate, there is blood in the water and the sharks are circling.
There comes a point where the press doesnt care about sides when they can get months of press coverage and headlines...... They smell it... look for those to go down.... Clinton, Reno, Gorelick, Berger, Kerry....and Hillary too tainted to ever run again.

The URL for this image is relative, so the Wednesday WP will only show for the next 24 hours after I post it. Note that they too have put the story all the way over on the left. The #1 story? Democrating fundraising is up!

How in the world could it have been just inadvertent, if there were five or six drafts, each of which were 12 to 15 pages long? That's between 60 and 90 pages of documents, each of which would have had a heavy cover as a secret document.

I am astounded at the length of the documents. From everything I have heard or read prior to this WaPo article, I was picturing single sheets of paper for each draft. Probably the Berger defenders wanted the false impression to prevail.

(From a listener)
WABC`s John Batchelor`s regular guest,John Loftus has just reported this evening(July 20) that the documents stolen by Berger would have revealed that bill clinton and the clinton administration hired al-qaeda terrorists to fight for the muslims in Kosovo.

Loftus stated the clinton administration provided documents and facilitated travel for the al-qaeda terrorists from Afghanistan to Kosovo to help the islamists fighting for a foothold back into Europe.

At the same time, he was known as someone who would constantly lose track of papers or appointments without subordinates to keep him organized and on schedule. "For all those who know and love him, it's easy to see how this could happen," one former Clinton colleague said.

This is such a dopey excuse. We're not talking about the way he kept his office; we're talking about him walking out of the National Archives with papers that didn't belong to him! Being a slob, and swiping files, are not the same thing.

This is sounding like a set up somehow.

No one else was in there. Someone suggested that just like at a library of noncirculating books, you have to sign in and sign for each of the materials you recieve at the National Archive. Or even if the 9/11 committee set aside a room and had everything there, someone would have had to record what was placed on the tables.

So Sandy Cheeseburglar, someone else suggested, took five to six dossiers, consisting of 15-30 pages each. Obviously, this wasn't a mistake. Plus, he admits to leaving with information he wrote down from highly classified documents. That's just as bad as photocopying them - or stealing them outright. It's all against the law. I don't see who he is setting up, etc. I looks, simply, like an officially sanctioned burglary by a trusted senior security official of the previous administration. He clearly abused that trust.

What do you mean, as well, by Kerry's unsigned Purple Hearts? Are they not signed, and are they normally? And what's your take on the Lehman letters, issued for supposedly the same Bronze and Silver Stars for which previous citations were issued? Many have suggested these were duplicates ordered perhaps because he, or some staffer, couldn't locate such medals on the trade or black markets; that in a VVAW fit of hubris, he threw away his original medals. But in going through channels, he produced these Lehman documents, as well. And I wondered - just as with the Archives, or a library, or frankly anything having to do with the military - shouldn't there be forms, and authorizations, and regs concerning every aspect of a request for 'lost' medals? And who has such forms, and what are they?

RE: the clinton administration hired al-qaeda terrorists to fight for the muslims in Kosovo.

Thanks for the reminder.

Today there are stories about Iran-Al Qaeda ("Iran closer to Al-Qaeda than Iraq, panel says," The Washington Post, Wednesday, July 21, 2004. "WASHINGTON -- The final report from the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks concludes that Al-Qaeda's relationship with Iran and its client, the Hezbollah militant group, was far deeper and more long-standing than its links with Iraq. . . .)

Remember Clinton's green light to Iranian arms shipments to Kosovo?

January 16, 1997 - Extended Bosnia Mission Endangers U.S. Troops, Clinton-Approved Iranian Arms Transfers Help Turn Bosnia into Militant Islamic Base

http://www.senate.gov/~rpc/releases/1997/iran.htm

How hard is it to believe that Al Qaeda, et al. went to Kosovo with the Clinton-arranged arms transfer? Not very. How hard is it to believe the puke president funded the effort? Not very.

The reason that Bin Laden got protection from the skid marks on America's clean shorts, the Clintons, is starting to come into focus.

Remember that drunken, slobbering speech he gave at Georgetown? "Those of us who come from various European lineages are not blameless. In the First Crusade, when the Christian soldiers took Jerusalem, they first burned a synagogue with 300 Jews in it, and proceeded to kill every woman and child who was Muslim on the Temple mount. The contemporaneous descriptions of the event describe soldiers walking on the Temple Mount, a holy place to Christians, with blood running up to their knees. I can tell you that story is still being told today in the Middle East, and we are still paying for it."

That was Bill Clinton after 9/11.

How hard is to believe that the Republicans will pursue this this until the entire truth is out? Extremely difficult to believe.

I have yet to see a government source explicitly confirm that any of the "drafts" were actually copies, ie, is something "missing" for good?

Finally found something on Alamo-Girl's website concerning the Millenium plot and the guy who tried to cross the border into the US at the time Ressam tried in the northwest- only this guy tried to get across to Vermont:

DECEMBER 1999 : (MILLENIUM PLOT : MUSTAFA ROUBICI TRIED TO ENTER THE US THROUGH THE CANADIAN BORDER WITH VERMONT) "…Last week U.S. intelligence agencies received information that terrorists were planning to bomb New York, Washington, D.C., and Seattle. According to foreign intelligence sources, various terrorist groups are on the move. Previously, on Dec. 14, U.S. officials apprehended Ahmed Ressam, an Algerian, at a Canadian border crossing. Officials say Ressam was attempting to transport explosives (or "bomb parts") past a border checkpoint near Seattle. Another Algerian, identified as Mustafa Roubici, was arrested at a Vermont border crossing. No actual explosives or weapons were found in the Vermont case, but special dogs detected the odor of explosives and weapons in the back seat and trunk of the vehicle. It is believed that Ressam and Roubici belong to a terrorist organization called the Armed Islamic Group, which has carried out attacks in Algeria and France. It is said that the Armed Islamic Group is connected with Osama bin Laden……To better understand who bin Laden is, and how the present Islamic terror network originated, it is important to start with the first organizers of it. In the mid-1980s PLO leader Yasser Arafat -- a client of East European Communists -- began employing Islamic terminology in his speeches. Combining Leninist and Islamic phrases, Arafat spoke of the Arab revolution and "the will of Allah" in a single breath. A man utterly without religion, Arafat recognized the advantage in hijacking sincere Islamic believers to the cause of Moscow-sponsored international terror. Khalil al-Wazir, PLO military chief at the time, brought about a secret alliance in Jordan between the Jordanian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Marxist Cells (a secret Communist organization within Jordan). In fact, the PLO set up joint training camps for young Communists and Muslims who would be sent to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan…." ---- WorlNetDaily 12/27/99 J.R. The arrest is apparently part of a nationwide FBI roundup of people with links to a suspected terrorist arrested in Washington state allegedly carrying military high-grade explosives, sources said. Youssef Karroum was listed in U.S. officials' computers as a possible associate of Ressam, the Algerian national who is charged in connection with an alleged plot to bomb unknown targets in the United States and is a suspect in various criminal activities in Canada. Specially trained dogs detected the presence of explosives in the vehicle, and a patch of the car Karroum was driving tested positive for nitroglycerine, the sources said. No additional explosives were found. Karroum later appeared in a federal court in Seattle, where a judge told him he was being held as a material witness. Mohambedou Ould Slahi was arrested in Mauritania after leaving the neighboring West African nation of Senegal on Wednesday. (ABCNEWS.com/ Magellan Geographix)…… FBI agents had been on their way to Senegal to question Slahi. Instead, Mauritania will allow U.S. investigators to question him, the sources said.
