NEW YORK (Reuters) - For weeks, the rumor mills have been working overtime to claim that Oscar winner Meryl Streep based her portrayal of the Machiavellian mom in the remake of "The Manchurian Candidate" on Hillary Clinton.
The rumors are not even remotely true, Streep told reporters over the weekend. But the actress added that she was imitating a person that no one has yet guessed.
Streep plays a U.S. senator intent on seeing her son become president, assuming the villainous role played by Angela Lansbury in the original 1962 political thriller. The remake from Paramount Pictures is slated to open on July 30.
Streep said she was "disturbed" by reports suggesting she had based her performance on the former first lady, now a Democratic U.S. senator for New York.
LOL!...Eva Peron, Nurse Racket or the Red Queen, take your pick!..Streep, You can't win. :))
Who knows. I hear they think we all look alike. LOL. That country club, ladies who lunch, Stepford thingie, dontchaknow.
LOL. All from the same evil mold.
"I wondered which of the mega-ton bombs Jesus, our president's personal savior, would have personally dropped on the sleeping families in Baghdad," Meryl Streep at the infamous NYC fundraiser for Kerry.
..but that was long ago in the 80's.
Since then, she truly began believing her own reviews...& her ego grew & grew!!
... and she has turned into a rather vicious, sniping, harridan....
... and I wouldn't buy or watch her stupid movies for all the tea in China!
T"he rumors are not even remotely true, Streep told reporters over the weekend."
Yep, keep the pie hole dribbling Streep, and the more you blather, the more the public will make the connection.
It almost sounds like a publicity stunt so that we see the movie(mo money) and to keep Hillary's name out there.
The film was made in 1961. Following the Kennedy assassination the film was pulled from release and didnt go into circulation again until the occasion of its 25th Anniversary in 1987. There the re-release publicity tried to make a big thing out of it having been banned - although this was overstated promotional rhetoric more than anything, the decision to pull it from release was studio sensitivity rather than any censorship decision, and the reason it had remained out of circulation was that Frank Sinatra had owned the rights and withheld them until he was paid owed percentage of the profits.
Wasn't that a cold and vicious swipe ? It was also very revealing in that is came from one whose public persona is shy and somewhat demure.
Wow. Thanks. I didn't know any of that. FR is a great source of information. :)
Uh-huh, that thought crossed my mind, too. :)
Ya gotta love it. Keep repeating it Meryl: "It's not really based on Hilary. No, it's not Hilary. Really! It's not! I'm tellin you, this character is not really based on Hilary!"
hee hee hee hee
I was thinking it was either her or was she implying Barbara Bush? Getting son to the White House?
LOL. The character is so evil and the premise is so diabolical that it isn't much of a stretch to make the connection. Also, I think it pretty telltale that the rumors are out there but the movie hasn't been released to the "Hillary-hating" public yet. So, who is perpetuating the rumors ? Liberal Hollywood, the distributors and reviewers.
The dimwit actress based her portrayal not on hillobeans, but on her own b*itchy democrat self.
Maybe not. But the Angela Lansbury original role could have been a early doppelganger for Hillary.
It may not be based on a woman. The Dims hate Karl Rove and Dick Cheney.
Actually, after I saw the original one (with Frank Sinatra in the Denzel Washington role, Laurence Harvey in the role that was one of two combined for some pretty boy I never heard of to plane, and Angela Lansbury in the Hillary! role) I remember being struck by how much the Lansbury character was exactly like Hillary!
Of course, you couldn't expect the real Hillary to have her motorcade run over a traffic cop that was in her way like -- oops, that was Hillary, not the movie. I do get the two confused!

You may be right, apparently, Streep has a very nasty side.
