Ben & Jerry's Meltdown

Ben & Jerry's co-founder inflamed by Bush

By CHRIS RODKEY ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Call it the burning Bush.

The co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is on the road, towing a 12-foot-tall effigy of President Bush with fake flames shooting out of the pants.

Ben Cohen believes it is an acceptable way to point out what he calls the president's lies.

"In a polite society, you don't go up to a person and look at them in the face and say, 'You're a liar,'" Cohen said in a telephone interview before arriving in Spokane, the next stop on the Pants on Fire Tour.

"We think it's a lot more dignified and there's a lot more decorum to say, 'Excuse me sir, your pants are getting a little warm, don't you think?'" Cohen said.

While I love ice cream, I never have and never will buy Ben & Jerry's. Ever.

with fake flames shooting out of the pants.

That's okay. The GOP has Sandy Burglar with real documents stuffed down his pants.

Keep on with your good work, Ben. Every stupid thing you and your fellow haters do helps re-elect our president.

Didn't they sell the company?

If I worshipped Bubba, the last thing I would be asking another man is if his pants are getting a little warm.

I've yet to see any evidence of lying on Bush's part.

Clinton shameless behavior really forced the Democrats to push the "you guys lie too!" button repeatedly over the last 3 or so years.

Too bad for them there's an honorable man in the White House.

Yes. Their name is still on it but they have no say in how it's run anymore

I know that they let someone else manage the company about 5 years ago. I hate to say it, but I do like their ice cream, but I switched to Hagen Das like I switched to Delmonte

I stoped buying their Ice Cream when I found out they were giving donations to PETA and ELF.

They were giving samples of B&J away at the store this last weekend. I told the lady, "not thanks--I don't support communist a$$holes" and walked away.

Cohen's such a simpleton.

He should stick to making Ice Cream and leave politics to the adults.

I won't buy their ice cream either!

Interesting side note here, I went to see the movie "America's Heart and Soul" and when they showed, I think it was Ben, I wanted to stand up and boo and hiss, just like people reportedly did in Mikie's little movie whenever Bush appeared on the screen.

I thought the movie was very well done - America's Heart and Soul, that is!!

I stoped buying their Ice Cream when I found out they were giving donations to PETA and ELF.

And I complain to every store manager that sells it when I go in to shop. Then they do a Dashale immitation with an "I;m Shocked, Just Shocked" response.

OTOH, if you buy some of their ice cream and don't like it, you can go to their website, fill out a webform complaint, and they will send you either a refund or a coupon for a free replacement. Your choice.

And if you really have a bad experience and call the office to complain, you might get more than one coupon to mollify your sensitivities.

Not that I'm suggesting anyone do this without cause, you understand. I just want you to know that a complaint like this could cost B&J more than the cost of one quart of their ice cream. Anyone who does this should certainly have a legitimate, heartfelt complaint before asking B&J to give them a refund or replacement coupon. I'm serious.

Ditto for my ice cream preferences. Saluting a colleague in boycott.
Cheers!
