GOP Adds Conservatives to Convention
NewsMax ^ | July, 20, 2004 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 07/20/2004 2:25:00 PM PDT by Kaslin

As we've reported for weeks, many conservatives were unhappy that liberals such as fake Republican Michael Bloomberg were dominating the lineup of speakers at the GOP convention next month. Now an expanded schedule includes such conservative favorites as Sens. Sam Brownback and Rick Santorum, along with some middle-of-the-roaders.

The additions announced today:

The bigoted media establishment has unwittingly honored Brownback, a Kansan, by branding him a "hard-core conservative," "hard-charging conservative" and "hard-line conservative ... one of Newt Gingrich's foot soldiers." Sounds great!

• Though Santorum and President Bush angered many by promoting liberal Sen. Arlen Specter over conservative challenger Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania's GOP primary, the senator's credentials are otherwise excellent.

• Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a doctor, will provide brilliant contrast to the health-care-destroying greed of zillionaire trial lawyer John Edwards.

• Sen. Elizabeth Dole will demonstrate why North Carolina has one U.S. senator who could actually win re-election.

• Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert helped pass the No Child Left Behind law, a severe blow to the union-dependent Democrats' usual policy of leaving every child behind.

• Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, a rising star, is one of the party's best hopes of toppling radical Sen. Barbara Mikulski. Bonus: Although she claims to be Catholic, he actually is.

• Rep. Heather Wilson of New Mexico is the first female veteran in U.S. history elected to Congress, Republican National Committee says. Bonus: Her pro-family work has enraged Bush-hating shock jock Howard Stern.

• Rep. Anne Northup of Kentucky, like Hastert and Wilson, has focused on reform of America's failed government school monopolies. Bonus: The Democrat hate group that calls itself NAACP has singled her out for its venom.

• Erika Harold, Miss America 2003, focuses on preventing youth violence and bullying. But hey, the Democrats have Jimmy Carter, Al Gore and Teddy Kennedy.

"As we've reported for weeks, many conservatives were unhappy that liberals such as fake Republican Michael Bloomberg were dominating the lineup of speakers at the GOP convention next month."

If the GOP leadership selected liberals to speak and no or few conservatives, then almost by definition he they are not 'fake' Republicans. This is just a sign of where the GOP is politically, or at least where they want to be perceived as being.

Glad to see Santorum on the list, he's definitely a true conservative.

>>> This is just a sign of where the GOP is politically, or at least where they want to be perceived as being.

I think it's where they want to be perceived as being (at least among swing voters). Unlike the President's father, the Party does not have to work hard to motivate the base to vote in November. The job this year is to put a warm and fuzzy image out there for the swing voters -- this move signals that they understand they may have gone too far and want to prevent an erosion of the support at the base.

BORRRRRRRIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG!

What is this the gang that cant shoot straight? That lineup will put people to sleep. We will lose points coming out of the convention...

Where's Forbes?

Where's Alan Keyes?

Where's the headbanging arch conservatives?

Where's Forbes?

Where's Alan Keyes?

Where they belong, on the sidelines. Neither has demonstrated the ability to win a race, any race.

Santorum and Brownback are just as conservative as Keyes and more conservative than Forbes.

I'm satisfied at any rate.

except for some psychos around here, who only represent the extreme fringe of the GOP, nobody can object to shining the spotlight at the big show on stars like arnold and rudy

bloomberg's the friggin' mayor of the host city--what're ya gonna do?

the bush buzzards are in a lose-lose situation: do you really want to take credit for electing kerry because you couldn't get energized enough? and, if bush wins this year, it'll be no thanks to all the whining you've done

This is a quite dishonest way to start the article. Bloomberg is there because his city is hosting the convention, just as Street, a Democrat, was there when the convention was in Philadelphia.

These conservatives also weren't 'added'...they were planned along.

And when you have the chance to highlight two superstars in your part like Rudy Giuliani and Arnold Schwarzenegger you'd best do it. This convention isn't to reach political junkies. It's so frustrating when people can't understand such a simple concept, isn't it?

Same old RNC/Karl Rove thinking: Women, women, women,
and no red meat. Santorum and Brownback are compassion junkies, although I admit they're also conservatives.

Elizabeth Dole? Dennis Hastert? Bill Frist, who Tom A$$hole and the Ted Kennedy make a monkey of on a regular basis?
Who is smoking what?

This isn't playing to win. It's playing not to lose.

As long as the borders stay open there will never be anything warm and fuzzy about this adminstration.

Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, a rising star, is one of the party's best hopes of toppling radical Sen. Barbara Mikulski.

Um, I guess if she runs for re-election in 6 years, then he would be. Otherwise, it's a reach.

Unlike the President's father, the Party does not have to work hard to motivate the base to vote in November.

That is dead wrong. Do not underestimate how many votes Bush has lost. It will be fatal. It may already be too late.

Bush's base has crumbled and fragmented. That was his father's mistake.

What is this all about?

There's always been a true conservative in the Convention speaking schedule -
problem is, he's not a Republican!

(Hint: he's from Georgia...)
