SENATE REPUBLICANS ACCUSE JOHN KERRY OF USING CLASSIFIED INFO STOLEN BY SANDY BERGER
ABC News- 'Noted Now' Latest Political Breaking News ^ | 7/20/04

SEN. SAXBY CHAMBLISS: 'Reportedly these documents are related to homeland security and then suddenly we see the Kerry campaign came forward with what may have been illegal documents. This is sensitive stuff and was a significant breach of security...Kerry knows better than to use these documents,' Chambliss says in a press conference.

SEN. GORDON SMITH: 'There is a curious connection between the removal of these documents and the Kerry press conference on port security..It's disappointing what people might do as they try and take the President down.

Until the FBI says otherwise, I think Berger just didn't want to sit and take notes in the archives for weeks. It is very boring and hard.

They were just saying on the news that the material could have been checked out under special arrangement. If true, why the pants?

She is ready to step in and save the party at the convention. It has been a scenario for four years.

I agee with you. He should not have taken the materials. It is theft. Still, people are speculating about motive.
Most people who take home classified documents just want to be able to work late. They aren't spies.

So far, the Republican Senators have not been able to demonstrate any link between Berger's actions and Kerry.
If they knew anything, we would know, too.

What will make Republicans look bad? I say open the sewers!

If Berger is that lazy and stupid a researcher (plus arrogant) he has no business in the field. Like I said earlier, if he needed time, Berger could have requested it from the Commission. Lord knows those idiots would have given it to him.

No, he made a conscious decision to steal classified documents in the same manner I used to shoplift as a teenager--though there's a big difference between Miller ponies and Marlboros and Richard Clarke's anti-Clinton ramblings.

Gordon Smith is a Moderate, and
NEVER a bomb-thrower. Maybe there
is much more to come??? If not, I
will be shocked at his involvement
in this.

Is that you lazamataz? Anyway, I didn't mention Hillary, but I did mention that I was wondering who the Democrats would nominate at their convention now?

Why did Kerry take down info from his website that related to the documents that your fellow RAT stole?

Do you honestly think that a former National Security Advisor has to wait for documents from the archives as if he was a normal Joe Schmoe?

It is very unusual for a group of GOP Senators to be commenting on a criminal investigation that doesn't have anything to do with the Senate.

Berger probably did use backgrounder from Clarke's drafts. I find it funny he took what could be passed off as Clarke's anti-Clinton obsessions (he hated Bill as much as W.) and got caught. Would have been amusing if he tried to sneak off with the Gorelick "wall" paper.

It's waaaay too soon to dismiss whether or not this affects Kerry. And when you say if the Republicans knew it did that we'd hear it ---we just did hear it from Chambliss.

I'm trying to get caught up on the threads.

What information did Kerry take down from his web site that we think may be related to this matter? Help a girl out!

I agree with you that what Berger did is wrong and a crime. The archives are there for all researchers and for the historical record. I just haven't seen any evidence from Republican Senators that what he did has any connection to Kerry. Just innuendo.

If this has been investigated for a long time, maybe the authorities will be making an intictment.

SANDY BERGER:

Theft of classified documents.
Obstruction of justice.
Tampering with evidence.
Interfering with an investigation.
