In a statement issued late Monday, Berger said the removal of those papers was unintentional. But law enforcement sources told CNN that some of the papers he is said to have taken from the National Archives were stuffed into his socks as well as other parts of his clothing.
That allegation drew sharp responses from two of Berger's associates. President Clinton's former spokesman, Joe Lockhart, said Berger "categorically denies that he ever took documents and stuffed them in his socks.

This is all about sex.One of the funniest moments in 'Married with Children' was when Peg pulled up the topsheet and there was one of Al's socks, about halfway down the bed.
There was a mixture of sniggers and 'ew!'s from the audience.

Bill Richardson is one sloppy dude himself. No kidding - a lavender sport coat with cowboy boots.
Someone get ahold of Mrs Richardson.

Hmmm, I'm trying to extrapolate from the premise of this scenario--if that happened, did Gorelick tip Berger? Maybe they told his lawyer. Maybe they had asked him to speak again and he declined. I want to know when the Commission learned. If it was before his April(?) appearance before the commission...sheesh...

Laz, planting memes is an old psy-ops tactic. But the Republicans have handled this far more adroitly than I had expected.
Berger spirited the documents out last fall, but the investigation became public only a week before the Democratic Convention.
The Democrats had expected a July Surprise on the order of having Bin Laden captured. They did not expect the July Surprise to be the imminent arrest of the key emissary from the Foreign Policy Community to the Kerry campaign. They did not expect to see him get nailed for a national security/espionage-related offense that carries hard prison time for both the thief and for anyone who lacks the security clearance and the need-to-know but who reads the documents anyway.
It's become obvious that this story is developing legs. Even the Establishment Media can no longer ignore it, and soon they will no longer be able to play it down. Because it needs to blow up in full force by the day the convention opens, I expect the velocity of the unraveling to increase exponentially.
Maybe the Republicans aren't the Stupid Party anymore.

That's great. Ron Kuby goes on and on about how stringent these rules are. AP reports that the documents were "more highly guarded than even nuclear secrets". When, in fact, it's very near impossible to walk out of my local branch library with a magazine!

Joe Lockhart, said Berger "categorically denies that he ever took documents and stuffed them in his socks. Meaning he stuffed the documents in his socks first, then he took them?

Bill Richardson was on Fox News and made comments that Sandy's behavior is just Sandy's usual disheveled, disorganized self. He said Sandy has always been sloppy and this situation is only Sandy being his usual sloppy self. Hmmm - then he wasn't a very good pick for National Security Advisor, was he. There's probably a lot more that could come out about when he was actually IN that position.

When did Berger know he was busted and when did the committee know? Those are two questions I am most interested in.
