Hmmm...so as to not arouse any suspicions in case they had to widen the investigation?

Why didn't it come out before he and Clinton went before the Committee. Because the partisan demoncRATs on the 9/11 committee are directed to protect the Clintonistas and do all they can to destroy the Bush Administration - there was no value in letting such info. out - particularly given how much play their comrades in the media had over Bush + Cheney testifying together while ignoring the fact Clinton brought his consigliere Bruce Lindsey along with Sandy Burglar to join him during his testimony. Obviously, it's now clear, Burglar was tasked with destruction of all the incriminating documents he could get his hands on in the secret area of the National Archives, and then to join Clinton to coach him on what he could thus avoid having to say or admit during his testimony.
Now we know - it wasn't Bush who lied, Bush who knew as the liberal mantra goes - it's not confirmed as truth - JOE WILSON LIED & BERGER WHO KNEW!

WHAH? How long does it take to find out a guy put top secret documents in his socks? Why? Why is this coming out now? Why? Why didn't it come out before he and Clinton went before the Committee. I was pissed before, now I am INCENSED. The comittee could have given him too much cover if it was still investigating. Now that is is in its final writing phase, they can't protect him or themselves from the repercussions.

It looks like (according to Drudge) some documents disappeared while he was reviewing them and the Archives made new copies and marked them. Then the new docs disappeared too. It looks like they were watching him the whole time.
Of course, you or I would be strip searched on the spot if we were witnessed in our public library stuffing non-circulated documents in our clothes. And then it would be straight to the poky for us.
One of the stories I read today says that Berger was asked to review (steal) these docs for the Clintons -- and isn't it interesting that the docs were originally written by Clarke. Clarke was treated like a rack star when he testified at the Commission, yet they knew all about this theft.
I wonder if Ben Veniste, Kerrey, and Gorelick will be linked to this?

Because the lame stream media isn't dong it's job. Investigations are supposed to be kept quiet with the typical no comment...This guy ought to go to jail!!!! NO ONE is allowed to remove ANYTHING from a supervised reading room. I hope it all comes out and that he is shown to be the lying cheating weasel that he truly is.

What are you upset about?
We caught the bastard and set him up so deep that he had to admit guilt. Now Burger will get an opportunity to sing like a bird or spend the next 10 years in Prison.
Someday, someone on this board is going to have to accept that the Bush folks know what they are doing. If I was Sandy Burger, I would be right now begging to be put in Witness Protection.

Enron went bankrupt in 2001 and Ken Lay was not indited until July 2004. It may be that the investigation just took that long to put together.
Also, I agree with Steven W. that, "Berger has been officially notified he's the target of a criminal investigation and his attorneys are beginning damage control." This was leaked by Berger's people now in order to start controlling the spin. That is a Clintonesque MO.

Republican leaders have broken a promise they made to expose the shocking contents of memos exchanged among Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats, says Manuel Miranda, the former GOP aide who is the whistle-blower at the center of the so-called Memogate scandal. Miranda tells Insight in an exclusive interview that both Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) broke clearly stated promises to expose collusion between top Democrats and special-interest groups seeking to thwart President George W. Bush's nominees to federal courts.
"Sen. Hatch told me specifically, point blank, that if I resigned he could then talk about the substance of the memos," Miranda tells Insight. "I was told by the Frist office that, if I resigned, the Democrats would basically calm down" and the Republicans could make the memos public. Miranda said the same promises were made to conservative groups that assist the Republicans in gaining support for judicial nominees.(snip)
The whistleblower(s) will probably be fired by 'MRs' Frist and Hatch(RINOs in mho) before any justice for Mr. Berger.
I would 'feel' a lot better if someone in the Clinton administration, or anyone on the left were charged and sentenced for their misdeed!!! .

It's not the theft, it's the coverup.
Was bergler acting on a kerry directive ?
Did the kerry directive to bergler mention stuffing socks ?
Did the clinton directive to bergler mention the proper function of a zipper in a federal facility ?

What's really sloppy is he got caught..
SLOPPY THEFT..
That's the real crime..
STEALING CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS AND GETTING CAUGHT..
