Sandy Berger has met much of the day with attorneys.
Among those he has hired is former Clinton administration lawyer Lanny Breuer.
Sources say Breuer has been in contact with prosecutors.
Sources also say Berger is stressing a willingness to cooperate, but investigators have not yet asked to speak with him.
Mr. Berger serves as an informal advisor to Senator John Kerry on national security matters.

I agree. That Bergler is offering to cooperate publicly and the feds have not even talked to him speaks volumes. I suspect too that there was some wiretapping going on after Bergler took them. This is going to be very interesting before it's all over.
Bingo. Why else would he admit it, much less cooperate?
Why else would Lott, Bond, and other Senators spout out all the BS about how they didn't believe it was anything other than an error... Sandy Berger is a great guy... etc. etc.
It's the set-up for for when the other shoe drops... the release/leak of the videotape.

I agree, Clinton directed the theft. Berger, knowing the position he was in, decided to get himself caught, for his own safety. If he wasn't caught, he was a man who knew too much.
And what if the sock docs in question have EVERYTHING to do with the 9-11 report coming out this Thursday?
I suspect the leak came from Bergler himself or those around him. The investigators have not even spoke with him yet. Bergler is trying to bring the investigation to a close faster than the Justice Deparment wants. Also, disclosure is better now than later in terms of the election.

I doubt it was difficult to get the documents in and out, but the security cameras don't lie.

Re#89 That was my initial thought too--but why a week before the Rat convention and with Bergler as a Ketchup advisor? Why not back closer to October when the warrants were executed--it would be "old news" by now. The 9-11 commission was also advised of the investigation and missing documents and I think too that it is likely that a staffer (on our side and disgusted with the report and politics) let it slip so as to damage the conclusions in the final report as to the grifting 'Toon. I doubt we'll ever know....

I read that Berger was given "marked" documents. It would have been stupid to have not made copies of those documents before allowing him access.
Methinks that the Bush Justice Dept has a rat in a trap by the tail.

More likely is the media will water this down, claiming "inadvertant error" and then continue to parade friends like Gergen in front of the cameras. Meanwhile, they'll question the "timing" and whether this probe is "political."
In the end, Berger will be indicted and will be charged but the media will sit on the story and let it die.
It always has. It always will. The media, having been allowed to be in the position of creating and destroying the news, now does so at will and underneath the nose of the very willing general public.
