Why else would Lott, Bond, and other Senators spout out all the BS about how they didn't believe it was anything other than an error... Sandy Berger is a great guy... etc. etc.
It's the set-up for for when the other shoe drops... the release/leak of the videotape.
Lott: "Sandy Berger was a friend of mine. I was one of his defenders when this story broke. Believe me, this is not a partisan attack. I've seen the video, and have reluctantly come to the conclusion that Sandy Berger stole National Security documents from the archives. It raises questions about what was in those documents that is now lost forever, and what his motivation was for taking them."
BTW, I can't believe Berger was stupid enough NOT to realize that he wasn't being filmed as he shoved those documents in his pants and socks.
It is even scarier to think he was in charge of national security while Bill Clinton was playing Kobe Bryant.
