And the next trick will be to get colleges to stop having any sort of rating system - if a student enrols, the student gets a degree...

If some kind of admissions standards are dropped, New York Universities might as well have diplomas printed on a roll that students just tear one off when they leave.

Bring back corporal punishment. It will solve most of the problems.

The only solution is this: every child born in America is immediately awarded (1) a Social Security Number, (2) a Ph.D., and (3) an annuity indexed to inflation.

Contrast this with the merit based universities of a poor nation like India. Which is lifting itself up by dint of harnessing it's native brain power, not disrespecting the more able students.

prevent state or city university systems from requiring SAT or other "high stakes" as major criteria in determining who gets accepted. See, there are still men getting into college. We just can't have this. We drug the little buggers, we shunt them off into slow-learning classes, we eliminate recess and then expel them when they fidget in their seats, we get rid of all the male teachers so there is no one on the whole campus but the janitor who will give them a break, and after all that some of them still beat girls on these damned standardized tests.
The only solution is to substitute subjective criteria like grades, which we can control. If we allow these male children to be judged by machines that read their answers directly, there's no telling how high they might score. Over 30% of last year's entering freshman class consisted of these males who somehow got through the screen. The drugs didn't take, their parents schooled them on the side, they didn't point their fingers at any other kids and say "bang," so we couldn't even have them arrested. It's obvious now that the only way to keep men out of the middle class in the next generation is to limit the selection criteria for college to those things that are firmly under the control of the K-12 Education Corps. |

They might as well drop them since most schools are in an intellectual tailspin anyway. I tutor high schoolers in math who get all A's and B's and then crash and burn on the PSAT and SAT. These kids are literally clueless. They not only don't know most of the grade level content they should know but they have no idea of testing strategy.
When I tutor home schoolers, however, it's all good. These kids work hard and really want to understand the concepts. Their parents work like dogs too.
In another decade or so, home schoolers will just take over all positions of real power in the country. They'll be the only ones who can figure out a 15% tip in their heads.

Any private college that implements this ought to hear from its alumni.
We have to hit them in the pocketbook to get their attention.
