While dispicable, Gergen's shilling for Berger is hardly unusual. If the Clinton years taught us anything it should be that Washington protects itself. The pols and the press nip at each other but when it gets serious they all--Democrat and Republican--find ways to make the story go away or appear unimportant while they back slap, play kissy face and carry on riding the gravy train.
If the average bureaucrat had been caught with taking and "losing" classified, he would have been facing serious prison time. But Berger will probably become a star on the cocktail party circuit and be offered a golden sum for a book about his "persecution."

Since I no longer watch anything that gergen is on, I wonder if they still introduce him as a Republican?
He is scum, and it sounds like he has outdone himself today. Disgusting.

Just caught Mike Barnicle on MSNBC who basically said the image of Berger stuffing documents in his pants would provide some yuks in the newsroom, but it's a non-story as far as the election goes. Gag me.
