What? Bush got clobbered for months in the media and you think he can't correctly point out security deficiencies of the former Clinton administration because of the so-called "New Tone" deal and the fact he's running against Kerry and not Clinton. This is suicide.
Politicians have a right to defend themselves when they're getting slaughtered. Not only that but they shouldn't allow themselves to be stuck on defense defending something they didn't do. They should be on offense.
Also - Kerry is part of the story about how dems as a group have weakened national security. Bush and the RNC missed a significant opportunity to point that out. (It's not just Bush I'm faulting - its the entire Republican team)
Actively pointing out Senator Kerry's many flip-flops and lack of Senate attendance is going on the offensive.
Screaming about what former President Clinton did, on the other hand, is chasing rabbits.
Clinton isn't running for office this year, but Senator Kerry is.
If you take your eye off of Senator Kerry to go chase Clinton, then you've lost the game. That's what happens when you chase the guy who hit you in the head rather than chase after the ball.
Don't take your eye off of the ball if you want to win. Otherwise, all that you are doing is brawling while the other guy is scoring.
