Hinsdale legislator may face Obama
DuPage chairman considers GOP bid

State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) said Sunday that he is "warming" to a bid to replace Jack Ryan as the state's Republican U.S. Senate nominee and has received the encouragement of his ex-boss, former two-term Gov. Jim Edgar, for making such a run.
Edgar "gave me a lot of ideas," Dillard said. "He convinced me that someone with my type of profile and experience, and especially with my uniqueness in the way that I line up against my friend and colleague, [Democratic nominee] Barack Obama, that the Democrat on the pedestal can be beaten."
Dillard's name began emerging in the hours following former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka's decision not to seek the nomination. Dillard also is a prominent member of the Republican State Central Committee, the 19-member panel that will decide on a replacement for Ryan, and he is chairman of the DuPage County GOP.
Dillard, 49, an 11-year member of the state Senate, initially expressed little immediate interest but acknowledged reconsidering after speaking to Edgar. In the three weeks since Ryan said he would resign the nomination in the aftermath of the court-ordered release of his divorce files, Republicans have had little luck in finding a credible contender to challenge Obama.

Edgar and Thompson should be ashamed for failing to come to the plate...
I've been scratching my head on this one. Why is Obama (rhymes with Osama) so damned popular in Illinois? How did he become such a force? What do his polling numbers look like?
Some info here:

Prayers for Kirk Dillard. Maybe he can put up some kind of a fight.
if Edgar has all these ideas, maybe he should be the one to implement them.
The only thing he's got going for him IMO is that he's "A Neck" (Western IL Univ - Fighting Leathernecks)
That being said, I'm fairly sure he voted FOR subsidizing Illegal Alien tuitions, so I probably WON'T vote for him any longer, as I've always had in the past. He can kiss my ....
>> That being said, I'm fairly sure he voted FOR subsidizing Illegal Alien tuitions,<<
The tuition issue isn't a national one, but if you're going to vote against Republicans for wanting to give all sorts of benefits to alien invaders breaking our laws, you have to vote against George. My advice: hold your nose and pull the lever.
He's attractive, intellectual, well spoken, has a good looking family, has been influential in the state senate and, let's see, there was one other thing... Oh yeah, the GOP can't seem to mount anyone credible to run against him.
Which is not to say this wouldn't be a tight race even with a decent Republican in the mix, but the GOP hasn't done themselves any favors and, arguably, seem to have written this one off.
And, to be fair, it's not that surprising since Illinois is so slanted Dem these days. It's unlikely Fitzgerald would have ever gotten the seat in the first place had he not been running against such a weak candidate as Carol Mostly Fraud.
One more note to my Illinois friends: "Obama (rhymes with Osama)" is cute, but isn't working and makes us look small. We need something more substantive to go after this guy with.
It's hard to blame them. This is almost a sure thing Dem pickup, and I'm not sure I would want to tarnish a highly respected lifelong record with a loss like that either.
Not to mention that both of them are pro-abortion rights...
(It's actually a link to part three, which is the only one that has links to parts one and two. Poor information architecture...)
Small and not too bright either because the names as they are pronounced do not rhyme.
The "bam" in Obama rhymes with sam.
He's essentially running unopposed. That's his big strength.
Indeed. Edger and Thompson are the only people left who could realistically hold this seat for us.
Now contrast that with Barthwell, who has ONLY donated to 'rats!
Phyllis singlehandedly managed to stop ERA in its tracks twenty years ago. ERA has come full circle in Illinois, with a vote pending in the state Senate when the bill is assured of passage. A Phyllis Schlaffly win would put the final nail in the ERA coffin.
The Illinois Senate race would receive national attention and solidify the conservative base for a Bush win.
Phyllis has moved Eagle Forum to St. Louis, but she also has an office in Alton. Some may think she may 'over the hill' to serve on the hill, but several her age are in the Senate
I would vote for Mickey Mouse if he has an R next to his name in this race because Obama is as liberal as they get. Any RINO would be an improvement over Obama. by the way we have about a snowball's chance in he!! of winning this seat. I am so ashamed to be from this state and I am actively looking to move out.
Dullard is the ultimate RINO and an aggressive force in the bi-partisan combine. You should have heard him WBBM Radio yesterday AM, 9:30-10:00 (which coincides with my church drive time). I sat and stewed in the car for about fiftenn minutes in the church parking parkibng lot as Dullard went on and on and on about what a wonderful guy Obama is, and how they'e worked to co-sponsor the same legislation, and how intelliegent Obama is, and how much he respects Obama, and what a great US senator Obama would make -- over and over and over and over again!!!
It was tough to get into the mood to worship.
