DFU SONG: Drive (a Ted Kennedy version of the CARS' hit)
DFU SONGS | 7-2004 | Lyrics, Doug from Upland

Posted on 07/18/2004 6:42:27 PM PDT by doug from upland

MIDI - DRIVE

Your little girl called...her car broke
Stranded in D.C....that's no joke
She's says, "Dad...it is not so bad...
Ted says he'll drive...tonight"

She hears on the phone her mom scream
Mom knows just what...it means
She gets on her knees and prays
Hoping that she's okay
She's says, "Dad...it is not so bad...
Ted says he'll drive home...tonight"

Teddy's thinking that...he'll have fun
He's killed more than...dad's gun
She's says, "Dad...it is not so bad...
Ted says he'll drive home...tonight"

She's says, "Dad...it is not so bad...
Ted says he'll drive home...tonight"

Good going. I actually emailed Rush years ago that he should use that song as his Ted Kennedy update song (Remember when he actually had update songs?) because as you said earlier, it's SO DAMN PERFECT!

Hey Doug you seem to have some talent for this stuff. maybe you can do something with this.

You might remember a tune called "Black Betty" by a band called Ram Jam in the late 70s or early 80s. Theres been an television ad with the music lately.

Whoa John Kerry, bam ba lam

whoa john kerry bam ba lam

john kerry went to nam

bam ba lam.......

Unfortunately, I don't know the song. I pretty much have listened to talk radio the last few decades.

Wow, what a blast from the past. The Cars were one of my favorite bands during the early 1980s. I haven't listened to their music in years. I think I'll bring a Cars CD to the car tomorrow on the way to work. Perfect summer music.

I was joking earlier. I have occasionally listened to music. Perhaps I mostly gave it up during the Clinton years. Yep, the CARS produced some really good music.

I can even hear Benjamin Orr (the lead singer on Drive) in my head. Normally Ric Ocasek did the lead but this one is memorable. Thanks

From your post on the other thread --

DRIVE by THE CARS

Who's gonna tell you when
It's too late
Who's gonna tell you things
Aren't so great
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight

Who's gonna pick you up
When you fall
Who's gonna hang it up
When you call
Who's gonna pay attention
To your dreams
Who's gonna plug their ears
When you scream

You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight

Who's gonna hold you down
When you shake
Who's gonna come around
When you break

You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight

Personal president-assassination fantasy:

I build a time machine, go back to 1963, and put Ted in the limo instead of JFK.

Now, if I can just build a time machine... wait, here's my kid's old Nintendo and a toaster...
