There is a large fire in the Santa Clarita Area of Los Angeles County....if you are in SoCal, that is the very large smoke clouds to the north.
I heard KNX talk about it several times when I just was out for about 30 minutes...in the traffic time, too...
I'm further south so that's all I know I can get in to hear more about what's up, besides what I can find on here!
Stay safe up there!
Sorry I have no sympathy for stupidity compounded by arrogance and commie liberalism. Southern California is an artificial environmental disaster created by pseudo environazis.
These pretty people cry out they are environmentalists, yet they subscribe to furthering a life style that guarantees failure on a monumental scale. They have completely destroyed the Colorado River eco-system just so they can pump water to their affluent hill side mega-estates and designer pools.
In short, to hell with them.
Well, the 138 is still closed due to the Pine fire, and the 14's now closed, so I'm pretty cut off. :O So that's a little weird. But the fires are miles and miles away from me. I just heard a scanner statement that 100+ homes are threatened in Santa Clarita.
Now a fire is causing evacuations in Temecula (per CHP). I know Temecula quite well and am up there a lot, but I can't place where it exactly is based on the cross streets...
It is going to be a VERY long fire season :-(
One of the main reasons the areas that burned during the last bout of fire were people that didn't obey regulations for clearing brush on their own properties...
And instead of coherent communities, what people want (somewhat understandably) is a spread-out living environment surrounded by "nature."...but that's asking for disaster in a Mediterranean climate with trees and bushes that have evolved deliberately to burn.
Though for some odd reason its blamed on enviros not allowing logging, which frankly doesn't make much sense in the So Cal environment; of course, the flora changes drastically based on altitude, but really logging companies have less than no interest in whatever grows in most of Southern California in the areas where people are living.
Just hitting this thread two hours after the fact; and very glad we sold our home just off the Golden Valley/Sierra Highway exits two years ago - at top of market!
We went through several of those scares from our tenure up there 1983-2002.
When? We watched it change a whole lot during our tenure in Newhall.
You're painting with a pretty broad brush there, Bucko....remember that California has a whole lot more Freepers imbedded than any other state - by a long shot!
Yes, the TV said one started in Riverside county around 2:30 but I didn't get any more than that. Must be the same thing? If I hear where it is I'll ping you. I can't listen to any scanner traffic from down there.
CDF spokeswoman Karen something said, a few days ago, the fire season is ordinarily not nearly as active this early, and that 'the worst is most certainly ahead of us'.
Whoo my whole house smells acrid. Yuck.
Thanks. That's very sweet. Yes we're all envirowhacko pretty people out here. *eyeroll*
Are you out in Riverside near the new fire? No... you're down San Diego way. I just remembered. Oh well, I'll hit send anyway, pinging you for interest. :)
go to hell yourself, buckwheat. the water in this part of LA doesnt come from the Colorado river.

Yes. I bet he starts applauding when a fire in Fresno endangers Jim, his family and the FR servers.
