Gunmen Ambush, Kill Iraqi Police Chief

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Gunmen ambushed and killed an Iraqi police chief as he drove to work Saturday, police said.

Lt. Col. Rahim Ali, the chief of police in the town of Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad, was killed immediately in the 9 a.m. attack, said Lt. Ali Obeid, a police officer in the town.

Insurgents have targeted Iraqi officials and police whom they accuse of collaborating with U.S. forces.

In February, an insurgent suicide bomber explosed a truck bomb outside a police station in Iskandariyah, killing 53 people.

Right about the point when it becomes obvious these are just criminals making excuses for their actions.

There will be a point when scores will be settled in the other direction.

There are some indications this has already begun, like the group threatening Zarqawi. However, I doubt we'll ever hear much more than we do about scores being settled, as the new Iraqi government will turn a blind eye and in many cases assits in killings done by Iraqi anti-insurgent groups. I believe these groups can penetrate high and far places in the insurgancy that US forces have had a hard time reaching.
