Tim McCanlies wrote an outstanding movie called "Secondhand Lions" and it was a really great story.
I wonder where he got the idea for the storyline? Could it have been from here at Free Republic?
seconded
We should all start a campaign for TBS or some network to bring the movie into a tv series. There are at least 1,000 scenarios which we could weave into 30-show season. Could you see the boy's taking the kid to Yankee stadium...and wounding up on the New York subway? Or how about going off to latin american country and starting a revolution?
Yes its a very good movie.. and certainly could be adapted to a television series... If they try to do this though, they better hire top notch writers an actors....
After all there are a lot of years between when he comes to STAY permanently with his uncles and becoming a Man....
It would be absolutely vital that the casting and writing be A calibre to make a series work.
is this the one where the people are being chased by zombies so they live in a mall?
I loved Forrest Gump, and bought the DVD. I took it as an indictment against pop culture and what the 60's wrought. I'm also going to take this opportunity to say that the worst movie I ever saw, and it in fact still makes me livid thinking about it, is American Beauty. I hated that movie, and immediately lost respect for any friends of mine that liked it.
I, too, loved "Forrest Gump," and had a discussion following that movie that lasted as long as the show. *L*
"Second Hand Lions" is a kids' movie, not up to adult artistic and continuity standards. Michael Caine's Texas accent was a joke, and the long long minutes of screen time devoted to expressions on the kid's face were way overdone -- like the constant screams of Culkin in "Home Alone".
For a kids' story, it was okay, but the adult story-telling fantasy version would be "Big Fish."
I agree, that was a really great movie.
You should to see Michael Caine in "The Man Who Would be King" for an excellent exotic travelling adventure story.
Do ya have a link or more info on the implied FR source for the story line ? Sounds interesting if you are serious. I'd like to hear the rest of your story ....... Great Movie ! In my DVD libary now.......
Stay safe !
In regards to Duvall, another outstanding performance!
"They died with their boots on"
George W. Bush will be reelected by a margin of at least ten per cent
Thank You for suggesting this movie. I was thinking about buying another movie when I saw this thread. I went out and bought it. WOW! This goes right up there with my all time favorites. It even has one of the great lines; "Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man has to believe in the most. Honor, courage and virtue mean everything." WOW!
what can I say I'm without words so I'll ........RUN POSTAL RUN
Gump had it moments, things that we all remember at one time or another and I liked the way they were used in the movie.
Ex. the Elvis twitch dance, the smiley face, the Kennedy footage, and I know there were more just can't remember than right now.
Second Hand Lions was just a great movie and I would recommend it to any one who has not seen it......
Puck Everlasting
Going Home or Long Way Home - I can't remember (Korean film in a similar pro-elderly vein)
Adventures in Babysitting (one F word)
This was a great little movie.
Right always wins out.
We loved it.
I thought it was apropos to have it show the Arab thanking the American for the courageous uncle, at the end. Cute kids too.
I'm proud to say my husband and I never saw Forrest Gump.
You just spoiled the ending for those who didn't see it yet.
Nah.
It isn't spoiled for anyone. &;-)
With all the Arab stuff going on, it would pay everyone to see it.
