Fax Congress for FREE! Urge them to consider complaint against Rep. Maloney for U.N. Letter

Dear Fellow FReepers,

As many of you may know, an Ethics Complaint has been filed against Rep. Carolyn Maloney for signing the now-infamous letter to the U.N.  You can view the complaint here.  Of course, the complaint has been redacted for anonymity.

However, in order for the complaint to be considered by the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, a member of the House must sign off on the complaint.  An effort to get this “certification” is already under way, but we need your help.  You can help by sending – over the ‘net and for free – the following fax (or a substantially similar one) to Majority Leader DeLay.  We are faxing DeLay because he is in receipt of the complaint, and his legal counsel is currently in the process of deciding whether it should be certified.  We need to let Congressman Delay – who is a good and fair man – know that a constituent’s legitimate grievance against his Congresswoman deserves consideration.  In fact, the Constitution itself guarantees the right of citizens to petition the government for redress of grievances.  Here is how you can help:

1.  Click HERE.  This will open the "fax for free" window.

2.  Enter the fax number in the window as follows (it must read exactly like this): +1-202-225-5241

3.  Don't forget to include your email address.  Otherwise, it won't send.

Please send Majority Leader DeLay the following message, or one that is substantially similar:

Dear Majority Leader DeLay:

I am writing to urge you to allow the pending ethics complaint against Rep. Carolyn Maloney, filed on July 16th by one of her constituents, to be certified and considered by the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.  I know that you will do the right thing and allow the complaint to proceed.

The Constitution guarantees the right of citizens to petition for the redress of grievances.  However, Rule 15(d) of the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct effectively denies citizens this fundamental right to hold their elected officials accountable for violations of the law and standards of ethics.  This is unacceptable.

Constituents of Carolyn Maloney have every right, under the Constitution, to have their legitimate allegations of illegalities and unethical behavior on the part of their Representative in the House, Rep. Maloney, merely, at the minimum, considered and contemplated by the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.

Therefore, I urge you to allow the ethics complaint against Carolyn Maloney – alleging violations of 18 U.S.C. §§ 1018, 1001, and House Rule XXIII – to be certified under Rule 15(d) and considered by the Committee.

Sincerely,

Your name, address, etc.

Of course you know that this will be portrayed as attempting to silence the free speech of an elected representative and make her a martyr.

We in the English-speaking world have been struggling with the concept of limited representative government since the Magna Carta. Rep. Maloney is attempting to undermine voters' confidence in elections that is essential for a functioning democracy.

Once that is accomplished, political leadership will have to be established via pressure group warfare. That will set us back to the political realities of Classical Rome. Review Gibbons' "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" for a taste of what the Maloneys of the world have in store for us.
