It's not food. Peanuts, even among the allergic, don't cause unconsciousness.

Unless it's a bunch of peanut allergic people all having an anaphylactic type attack coincidentally all at once. That'll be the end of the honey roasted nuts /scarasm

UPDATE:

"LINTHICUM, Md. -- A plane landed at Baltimore-Washington International Airport late Thursday night apparently with several people unconscious.

Sherman reported seeing two planes possibly on the airport's runway, surrounded by police vehicles. Since the incident, air traffic at BWI has been slow. In fact, Sherman reported at 11 p.m. that he had not seen a plane land or take off from the airport since arriving at the scene."

Do they still have barf bags on planes? It's been awhile since I've looked for a barf bag on a plane.

My dad used to work for Southwest before he passed away and we still have several friends who work there. It's the best company in the whole world, IMO. My prayers for everyone on board the plane and that it wasn't anything sinister or sabotage.

Dad used to bring home the food they served on the plane. I thought they only served pre-packaged snack foods on Southwest, not entire meals - so it seems odd that it could be food related. I could be wrong.

There weren't any Middle Eastern musicians traveling on board, were there?

There may have been a tree hugging enviornmental whacko on board who hadn't bathed since woodstock.

Yes. Better/easier to dispose of a bag than to clean puke off the back of an airline seat.

Between stories of "fumes" and "food related," can an absence of smoke be inferred? Does not sound like smoke in the cabin.

Apparently the problem plane arrived at 10:45 pm

"The plane reportedly was a Southwest Airlines flight from Houston that arrived around 10:45 pm with 125 people aboard."

and it's quite possible that for security reasons they are not allowing other planes to take off. But I am kind of surprised about not allowing planes to land.

My comments are not wise-cracking, but suble references to the "Terror in the Skies" incident" thread. There is nothing funny about the real possiblity that the incident witnessed a week ago was a practice run that was completed today. I did not want to be the first to sound the alarm except to someone I had seen on the previous thread.

No offence taken by your admonistion to the pranksters, however. Sometimes, folks get silly and it is out of place.

Not fired. The CEO resigned for personal reasons.

Perhaps, but that's usually along the same lines as 'left to pursue other interests.' When it is 'effective immediately' and the new guy has already been picked, it's usually not voluntary.

Media are linking it to the earnings:

AP/Chronicle: "Southwest Airlines CEO and board vice chairman James F. Parker announced his retirement today as the company reported second-quarter earnings fell by 54 percent, missing Wall Street targets.

Parker, whose retirement was effective immediately, said he was leaving for personal reasons.

NYTimes:"Yesterday morning, Mr. Parker notified Southwest's board that he would leave immediately. The airline, which had announced its second-quarter results earlier in the day,"

Mr. Parker, a Southwest executive since 1986, said that his decision to go was prompted by "a combination of things" that he did not specify; he said his health was fine.
