Apparently 10 people overcome by fumes on flight, 4 in critical condition. This was reported at the half hour flash (11:30PM EDT).

That's a great novel. I finished reading The Lion's Game a couple of months before 9/11. Talk about creepy. I really like Nelson DeMille's books.

I was on a flight once that was de-iced at the gate (of course, this doesn't apply to this flight), and they must have left some ventilation duct open, the smell of the antifreeze used to de-ice the plane entered the cabin and many people started gagging.

If there was a leak in one of the aircraft systems such as the hydraulic fluid and it got into the cabin air system, it can be fatal in high enough concentrations.

That's what the news flash said, DC station was reporting 2 critical from what I hear.
