NEWS FLASH: Ditka storms out of meeting

By The Leader-Chicago Bureau CHICAGO -- This morning in downtown Chicago, Mike Ditka left a secret meeting with IL GOP decision makers, angered about the media being tipped off.
Ditka was to meet with members of the IL GOP State Central Committee and to speak via conference call with national level Republicans.
As word of the meeting leaked out to the press, Ditka reportedly was angered when met by reporters, exited the meeting promptly and hopped into his black Escalade, and left, obviously upset.
Matt Drudge reported this morning that an announcement would be made at 9:30 am.
No word as to the ensuing discussion among state central committee members left at the meeting, which is still going on.
Ditka's willingness to take on the candidacy may be in doubt now.

I disagree too.
There are plenty of bloated ego senators who get angry over far *less*. In this case, his reaction was justified. He's not yet in the ring, and doesnt need a circus around him just yet.
Besides, this 'journalist' may be exagerrating ... I mean, did he punch anyone out, or was it just one of those scowls he gave off?

Wrong. Bush's #1 advantage over Kerry is decisiveness. Dumping Cheney for *anyone* shows weakness and indecision that would sink his re-election.
Besides - Cheney awesome and a great asset to his administration.

Sometimes politics means growing a pair and standing up to scalawags and poltroons. If Ditka stepped foot on the Senate floor, the testosterone level of Republican senators would go up by at least 100%. And that is without his Levetra.
"All I'm saying is, hey, people gotta learn to work together," Ditka said. "There are solutions for everything. You can't be too extreme here and you can't be too extreme to the other side."
Sounds like horatio has unwittingly endorsed Da Coach!

And maybe we can sit on our hands and watch a Socialist Democrat politician win this race in a walk because we dont have a candidate to put up against him...

Mike doesnt run, Obama wins against no-name GOP candidate(90% chance).
Maybe Ditka could do a trade where the islamofascists get France and we get all the oil in the mideast.

Notice the press doesn't mention what obnoxious questions they asked, or what offensive, mocking tone they used. Nah. It's easier to just say, "Ditka blew up and stormed off for no good reason." That way the press gets their desired reaction from readers (even supposedly conservative ones).
Don't tell the whole story when half a story will do.

I don't get why people are so insistent that Cheney remain in a powerless and ceremonial position of VP when he can continue to serve in some other capacity (Sec. of State? CIA Chief?) Bush needs someone who can help him win. Bottom line. Cheney does nothing on that score.
LOL! Consider for a minute the personality makeup of someone who actively seeks a position in local and state party politics. As far as I can tell, this kind of behavior would almost have to be a prerequisite for individuals interested in playing in local party politics.
The individuals who "desire" a position in local party politics are the individuals with a burning desire to control other people's lives. Face it, that's the common trait for all political types. They have an intense need to control, and a desire for power.
They cannot get it in their personal or professional lives (or they cannot get enough of it in their personal or professional lives) so they turn to government as a means to slake their thirst.
In times past, when the majority of the population was more interested in their own affairs, we had a greater number of "reluctant" and "part-time" politicians. In today's society, however, we have an abundance of control junkies and power mongers to play the role of professional politician.
If he lets this little episode get to him, there's no way he'd be able to handle the Senate and the media after winning the election. I doubt his candidacy is in doubt. ;-)
Not even some people in Illinois understand this, given the political leanings of Ditka and Obama. Ditka describes himself as ultra-conservative, while Obama is by any account an extreme liberal.
As an AMERICAN citizen who will have to live with the senator your state sends, and I apologize for Hillary & Chuckie (my fellow New Yorkers were starstruck by the cankled beast and its lower minion Schumer), we don't need another Hillary or Kennedy or Boxer in the Senate.
This old "Let's find someone else argument" ain't gonna fly, folks. THERE IS NO ONE ELSE. Given the recent political history of the state and the torpedo to the Ryan campaign, if the new Republican candidate's name isn't Ditka, he/she will lose and lose by an embarassingly large margin and Obama, like Durbin, has a Senate seat for life.
Reminds me of Mary Matalin on Imus. She said, while defending him, that Cheney doesn't care about what his press coverage is like, he doesn't worry about his image.
So, does he know he's a politician and a public figure or does he think he's Joe CEO somewhere. Hell, even CEOs have to have good PR. Why does Cheney think he can be Bush's VP and not work to make sure he has a good public image? Does he think he's too good for it or what?
That's okay. It would be in the context of a football game. We'd understand. ;-)
This is the way it is. Dick Cheney is the most influential and the most powerful VP since Richard Nixon stood in for Ike several times in the 1950`s. He is the President's main sounding board. And conservatives love Cheney. As a runningmate, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the ticket. LBJ may have given Texas to JFK, but Cheney is the first official co-POTUS. IMO anyway. I like the setup.
Dropping Cheney would infuriate Bush`s conservative base. Especially since the conventional wisdom says, Bush needs to pick a pro-choice centrist like Powell or Rice. And John McCain would have the same effect on conservatives. The historically small bump that Kerry got from picking Edwards, in the long run is inconsequential. Any convention bump will be short lived. We have two steady hands guiding America right now. Changing horses so clsoe to the end of the race serves no good purpose. Following the RNC, we have eight weeks of intense campaigning. Its pedal to the metal and full speed ahead.
Cheney is needed to keep the conservative base supportive of the ticket. He did so in 2000.
We don't need a left-leaning VP like McCain undermining the president.
You have a source for that quote? That doesn't sound like the Ditka I remember seeing on the sidelines.
If he can keep his anger in check, good for him. I just don't think he can. And it has nothing to do with my being a Packer shareholder. ;)
