DETROIT (AP) Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry plans to travel to Michigan to address the Urban League next week.
Kerry's recent visits to the state included last month's $1 million fund-raiser, where the U.S. senator from Massachusetts attacked Bush's economic performance and touted his own job-creation proposals.
Word of Kerry's planned July 22 stop came amid a flurry of presidential campaign activity in Michigan.
President Bush was in Michigan on Tuesday, telling an Upper Peninsula crowd his economic policies are bringing prosperity and jobs to the state. And Vice President Dick Cheney and U.S. Sen. John McCain plan to hold a campaign rally Friday in Lansing.

So Kerry is preaching to the choir. He must be afraid. Very afraid.
Michigan election ping.
Ive written to the Cash and Kerry campaign. I lied and told them that my little town of around 200 people were big supporters of his and that we would give him a BIG welcome.
Someone either ignored my letter or researched the demographics of the area and i got no response. If he's going to go to Detroit he'll only be about 75 miles away and Ann Arbor or Lansing will bring him within shouting distance.
Oddly enough, if he did show his face here he would receive a warm welcome (due to manners) but no votes.
This will be the second time in 3 weeks that Kerry will be in my district.
Can you smell the desperation?
Face it, it is only a photo op. for the nitwit. His 'urban' and 'union' base votes dem 90% anyway. The only NEW voters he might pick up here are the swing voters in the 'burbs and they are more than likely to be hostile to him anyway. And he knows it, and his campaign knows he is a coward, that is why you won't see him in smaller towns.
Bush got great coverage on the Great Lakes tour yesterday.
If he were that desperate don't you think he would venture into uncharted waters? I think he is only trying to shore up his own base. If MI goes Bush that translates into a national landslide. And that he knows.
Add me to Michigan Ping List
I think the fact that he is trying to keep his base is part of his desperation. He is coming into Detroit where there are two unpopular incumbents.
He doesn't even feel that he has a secure base. His white union base is full of veterans and pro-military. They aren't too thrilled with a swishy prep-school boy who marries for money and never worked with his hands. Kerry is like a friend of mine, who when he saw me pick up my chainsaw and start cutting down a tree, he kept telling me that it was too dangerous and to call a tree service. Kerry would also probably start to cry.
Kerry gets 400 in Ypsi and goes to Downtown Detroit twice. That tells me he's worried about turnout.
