Suspicious Package Causes Evacuation Of Federal Building
A bomb squad exploded a suspicious object found behind the federal building in Harrisburg Tuesday morning.
The federal building in Harrisburg was evacuated after a suspicious Thermos was found behind the building around 8:30 a.m. during a routine security sweep.
Police in Harrisburg closed streets and sidewalks in the area.
The Penn State Bomb Disposal Squad exploded the device and is now doing testing on it to figure out if it actually was an active explosive device.
"They believe, at this time, that it was an active explosive device, but they do not know what it was made of, what the ingredients were," city spokesman Randy King said.
King said the FBI (news - web sites) is heading the investigation, "because of its potential terrorism link."
Bomb dogs are sweeping the building to make sure it is safe. About 350 people who were evacuated have not yet been allowed to return to the building.
In related news, police detained a frantic, angry woman outside the federal building in Harrisburg today. Witnesses reported the woman was screaming something about "What have you done to my toy?! You monsters!"
OMG.. it the dreaded "thermous bomb". Most likely planted by a railroad "bumb".
They just blew up the janitors lunch.
I'd better go take a shower now whilst the gettin is good.
Not necessarily. According to the WJNO report, when they denotated the thermos, the force was greater than expected, so it probably had some kind of explosive in it.
There's a federal building in Harrisburg? Gee, you learn something new every day.
I hope it wasn't a dirty thermos.
Harrisburg local radio has had sketchy reports of this all day, but never seemed to make anything very clear. One of the last reports said the thing exploded when hit with the stream sprayed by the bomb squad's high pressure water hose, but it wasn't clear if there were explosives present or not. I remain puzzled, because I am not familiar with non-explosive things blowing up when hit with water.
LOL! It must have been Chief Wiggum's "asylum pepper" chile. ;-)
The force from the water probably set off a pressure-sensitive explosive inside the thermos.
"The Penn State Bomb Disposal Squad..."
Joe Paterno heads-up a bomb squad? (Sorry, I just couldn't resis, down in southcentral Penna)
Bean soup?
I just stopped off at the Harrisberg Pa. thread.
Bomb squad has been called. I will pray for you
and your son. My brother and his family live in New
Jersey. My parents flew from TX yesterday to visit
for a week. They will be going every where.
See post #13. LOL!
Thank you!
This does tie in with the info posted on another board by a mzkitty several days ago.
Also- I had called the Islamic Center in Steelton (outside of Harrisburg on Front Street) several nights ago at 12:30 AM- just out of curiosity- and they were still up- burning the midnight oil- answered the phone.
The Islamic Center near DC is said to be open all night long as well.
Please see post 22 on the Cave of Darkness thread
Hopefully nothing with bio in it.
Harrisburg has received numerous AQ threats
There was a warning in the past to watch for thermos bottles that the terrorists were "reworking".
One of these days this country is going to decide that we're better off without Muslims, than to deal with this BS constantly.
Where did you read this? The only thing I can think of in that area is Three Mile Island.
