More evidence against socialized medicine. As if we needed it.

This article should be called the half-truth about Canada's medical system. The half that's missing is the slashing the national goverment did to the system in the 90s that they have recently been trying to reverse by piling the money back in. However, the damage has been done, and it will take time for any new money to have systemic effect.

All of my Canadian relatives come to the U.S. whenever they need an operation.

Another casualty of the lengthy waiting periods is Canada's much-vaunted equal access to medical treatment. Even though medical emergencies allow some people to jump ahead in the waiting line — making others wait longer — a survey published in the Annals of Internal Medicine medical journal found that more than 90 percent of heart specialists had "been involved in the care of a patient who received preferential access" to cardiac care because of non-medical reasons including the patient's social standing or personal connections with the treating physician.

THE ARISTOCRACY OF PULL

right outta Ayn Rand.

Here on the border between the US and Ontario, we see the "fruits" of socialized medicine every day. Hundreds of patients from Canada coming to the hospitals on the US side for treatment, surgery and whatever else they need. Why? The infamous waiting lists and inadequate medical providers in Canada.

Oh Canada...

In rural British Columbia, it is not rare to wait a year to see an orthopedist. If you need surgery, you could wait another 3 years.

I got this from one of the surgeons.

Basically, Canada health care is "free" when you can get it. In effect, free health care usually means no immediate care at all. You get put on a waiting list. If you love having bureaucrats manage your medical care, you'll love Canada health care.
