The so what is this: The original poster was using 1968 Chicago to show how violent demonstrations at a Nominating Convention hurt that party and helped the other. The problem with the analogous projection is that the only way his theory would work is if the reverse were to prove true. In this case if the public sees images of violence at the NYC convention, and reacts the same way as in 68 then it is the dems who benefit....think maybe that's what they have in mind?
One difference in your analogy was that the protestors in Chicago in 1968 were not Republican supporters, trying to disrupt the DNC convention. They were hard-core leftists protesting the DNC platform. They made visible how out of control the Dem leadership was, leading voters to choose a never-liked but perceived as more adult Nixon choice (even with the ridiculous choice of Spiro Agnew as veep.
This time the anarchists in NYC will be seen as leftists, who trashed Seattle and Genoa and how have tried to trash every city hosting pro-capitalism meetings for the past ten years.
Their behavior will not turn voters toward the Kedwards.
