Are the ingredients in place for a dirty bomb at the Fleet Center in Boston?

The headline reflects one of the many possible scenarios considered by the radical Islamists who want us all dead. They don't care if they kill Republicans or Democrats, hawks or war protestors, Rush Limbaugh or their pal Michael Moore.

Do they have a scenario for an attack on the DemocRATic National Convention at the Fleet Center in Boston scheduled for July 26-29? Consider the following:

ITEM: On or about April 8, 2004, a 9200-gallon fuel transport truck was stolen from TK Transport Terminal in Pennsauken, NJ. It has not been recovered.

ITEM: On April 21, 2004, two pieces of highly radioactive fuel rods were stolen from the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. They have not been recovered.

ITEM: Hussain Al-Hussaini, implicated in the Oklahoma City bombing by Jayna Davis in her blockbuster, THE THIRD TERRORIST, has a last known location in, you guessed it, Boston, MA. Al-Hussaini has had several jobs at gas stations. He only works the graveyard shift, a shift at which a tanker truck might be filled over time without too much notice.

ITEM: Those in charge of security at the DNC convention are so worried about the close proximity of I-93 to the Fleet Center, that the freeway will be closed in both directions the four nights of the convention.

What are the plans to stop a fully loaded tanker truck? How close might it be able to get to the Fleet Center?

I am sure that DNC security officials, the FBI, local and state agencies, and the Secret Service have considered hundreds of scenarios. This is probably one of them.

The only Dirty Bomb found in Boston lately was discovered in Fenway Park, masquerading as a baseball team.

We need to defeat the RAT enemy at the ballot box. We don't want people killed except the terrorists. (those who aid them, we want in jail)

I am not sure this could easily be accomplished. Is there a mechanism for fuel to be loaded onto tanker trucks from gas station tanks? I wouldn't think so, at least not in ordinary tankers.

It can be done, I saw it once on an episode of "Chips" :-)

Most tanker trucks have pumps that will pull a vacume on the tank and "suck" fluids into them. I used to work at a gas processing plant where tank trucks emptied a number of underground tanks of everything including the "EPA federally mandated rain runoff".

I hope this does not happen.

If Kerry were killed at the dnc convention, Hillary! would be the replacement candidate!

with an LNG tanker you don't even have to be close to anything, just within a mile or two.

I think it would be hard to carberuate the fuel & get n explosive mixture.

No. Emphatically no. These rods were never thought to be stolen. They probably never left the plant but rather they were not properly accounted for in the plant's paper work. In fact they think they may have located them.

True... the difficult part is to get it to "all go up at once". Getting it to catch fire and then burn hugely is not difficult. But every now and then you read about the mixture being just right and them only finding the shoes of the people who were close.

a motorized pump and a garden hose would work very easily

indeed, the stories I have read about Padilla - hospitals were going to be the source of the material for the dirty bomb.

John Kerry said that the threat of terrorism had been overstated, so I guess that means that everything is safe. /sarcasm off.

Thanks for the info, but I think they are saying that they are still not sure.

Many if not most tank trucks have pumps that draw a vacume on the tank. The same 3 or 4 inch hose that lets liquid out the bottom of the truck can be used to "suck" liquid up into the truck.

I would think that considering all the traffic interdiction
a tanker bomb would probably already be in place, most likely some where upwind of the fleet center.

Another scenario would perhaps have that tanker unload it's
fuel directly into a subway tunnel, a tidal wave of flaming
gasoline would be pretty intimidating particularly to a train load of delegates prior to the opening ceremonies

And too think what this would mean politically how would it affect the election for one party to NOT have a convention? Don't you know they would be screaming about the fairness of it all? About how GW's lack of security prevented them from a "level playing field" etc.

Do you recall that Homeland Security briefing a few weeks ago about the 7 or 8 people the Feds were looking for? Wasn't at least one of them up in Canada a year or two ago, at a university where some radioactive waste went missing?

but the first responders need to make $100K+ per year and retire after 20 years with full pensions - just to make sure we are all safe from the overstated threat of terrorism.

I know Boston very well and am in total agreement with you. This DNC is one heck of an experiment. Even though I don't work there anymore I still spend quite a bit of time in Boston, and have planned to be flexible that week.

So far, from what I see, traffic is going to be pretty messy. I'm all for Boston making more money and I hope they pull it off, but I'm still skeptical they'll pull if off from a financial standpoint as well as a traffic one.
