ITEM: On April 21, 204, two pieces of highly radioactive fuel rods were stolen from the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. They have not been recovered. After 1800 years, I think the rods are pretty much decayed of the really lethal stuff now. (c8
Interesting set of circumstances, though.

Terrorists would prefer to go after Republican convention first so sKerry would have a chance of becoming president.
However, I would love to them give the FLEET Center a timely enema!

He only works the graveyard shift, a shift at which a tanker truck might be filled over time without two much notice. With all due respect Doug, I am not sure this could easily be accomplished. Is there a mechanism for fuel to be loaded onto tanker trucks from gas station tanks? I wouldn't think so, at least not in ordinary tankers.

Literally? Possibly.
Figuratively? They will be the last week of the month.

At the top of the map you'll see route #1 and Constitution Pl. That is where the bin ladin relatives owned their condominium - on the water overlooking Logan Airport, the Boston skyline and the Fleet Center. I wonder if they sold their property? Also their condo looked out onto the harbor where the LNG tankers come in. I'm sure no LNG tankers will be allowed in during the convention.

Why would the terrorists attack their allies in America (aka Democrats)?

It really is harder than this to make a dirty bomb. The heavier elements -- uraniun and plutoniun -- are nearly worthless as dirty bomb material.

If you've ever been to Boston you would realize that the new bridge runs extrememly close to the Fleet Center and I'm sure that bridge will remain open. A dirty bomb in Boston, anywhere in Boston, would have devastating implications to our economy.
The Boston real estate market is wone of the higest priced in the country. Imagine if people couldn't work thus not paying mortgages, leases and rents. Catastrophic comes to mind.

I'm sure no LNG [Large Natural Gas] tankers will be allowed in during the convention. Does this mean Ted Kennedy is banned from the convention?

no no, the Dems say that terrorism isn't really a threat, so no problems or concerns, right? Right?

Two years ago, I did a risk analysis at a major hospital in Southern California. It would have been very easy to steal radioactive waste from that facility. I am sure it still can be done at many hospitals and other facilities by determined terrorists, especially if they have insiders in the hospital.

From a tactical, mission-oriented posture, the GOP convention presents a much harder , more difficult target, for three basic reasons:
1. Since 9/11 security in NYC has been tightened up immensely.
2. Manhattan, as an island, is relatively easier to control and monitor access, compared to Boston.
3. The regular grid layout of Manhattan's streets and avenues makes it much easier to provide layered, defensive cordons....
That all depends if AQ is determined to merely make a statement, or want to take the maximum number of lives, or induce panic..For example..to take DfU's dirtty bomb scenario..which is plausible...what if they decide to detonate such a devise outside Yankee stadium, when the Red Sox are inside, and it's filled with 55,000 screaming fans..Think about it..considerable loss of life, the panic of "nuclear" disaster, and a contaminated and unusable Yankee Stadium...
