-The Prince of Tides- Bush ads, Kerry ads, the Tides Foundation, and so much more--
Here are some of the quotes from the members...
Anarchism has got a really bad rap, like communismHmm. Well. How 'bout that?
Ruckus Society director John Sellers, writing in the New Left Review, July-August 2001
Monkey-wrenching is more than just sabotage, and youre goddamn right, its revolutionary! This is jihad, pal. Everything, every assumption, every institution needs to be challenged. Now! And more spiking is needed to convey the urgency of the situation!... Go out and get them suckers, fill them full of steel, and I promise you this: you might get caught; you might do some time; your friends might abandon you. But you will never have to spike the same tree twice.
Ruckus Society co-founder Mike Roselle, in The Earth First! Journal, December 1994/January 1995
You create symbols, then manipulate them so the public sees things the way we want them to.
Howard Twilly Cannon, in U.S. News & World Report, May 12, 1997
Its cooler to give a crap than it used to be . This is a watershed moment for us. Some amazing alliances are being formed in Seattle -- steelworkers and animal rights activists; people of faith and human rights groups. This is not just a single protest; were kicking off a movement this week thatll be around long after the last WTO representative leaves Seattle.
Han Shan (not his real name), in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, November 29, 1999
I make a distinction between violence and destruction of property. Violence to me is against living things. But inanimate objects? I think you can be destructive, you can use vandalism strategically. It may be violence under the law, but I just dont think its violence.
John Sellers, in The Mother Jones, September/October 2000
There is no better way to launder corporate multinational largesse than giving it to the movement that is confronting it.
John Sellers, in a Financial Times special report, October 15, 2001

The Tides Center board of directors has been especially busy of late. In 2001 the first Tides franchise office (not counting Tides presence in Washington and New York) was opened in Pittsburgh. This new outpost, called the Tides Center of Western Pennsylvania, was erected largely at the urging of Pittsburgh native Teresa Heinz (the widow of Senator John Heinz, the ketchup heir). Heinz pulls more strings in the foundation world than almost any other old-money socialite; shes presently married to U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-MA). The Tides Foundation has collaborated on funding projects with the Heinz Endowments (Teresa Heinzs personal domain) for over 10 years. When "Peaceful Tomorrows" shows up to protest Bush, that's Heinz-Kerry money laundered by the Tides. Often, given the press we have in this country, they're simply described as "families of 9-11 victims."
