SAY GOOD NIGHT, Dick. NBC Sports & Olympics chairman Dick Ebersol got a little too chatty during his press session Saturday for NBC's coverage of the 2004 Summer Olympics. On stage as well was NBC's prime-time Olympic host Bob Costas, covering his sixth Games.
The massive, 70-hours-per-day undertaking (spread over NBC, MSNBC, CNBC and several NBC-owned cable networks) takes place next month in Athens.
Ebersol, a one-time Saturday Night Live showrunner, was asked how tightened security due to recent terrorist threats would effect NBC's ability to cover the Games.
Ebersol bragged that he was leading the biggest Olympic broadcast team ever, with 3,100 employees (roughly six times the number of athletes the U.S. is sending).
He'd even met with various world leaders about the security issue. "I had a one-on-one with President Bush in February where he dazzled," Ebersol said.
Sensing that the remark needed an explanation, he went on.
"I mean, I went to college (Yale in late '60s) with him. I don't remember him being that curious or up-to-date on all the facts. But on this one, he really did know the facts."
That prompted a few titters from the TV critics. "No, I'm serious. You know -- hey, I was there. The guy liked to drink in college."
Huge laughs. "You know," said always-right Bob Costas, "there is every chance that that's the only quote that comes out of here."
Churchill liked to drink as well--even after college.
Well, WHO DIDN'T?
I don't find this such a bad statement. My friends and I drank a ton in college (not to mention high school). Today I rarely touch the stuff. (Its not like he attacked a woman or something in college like the previous occupant of the WH that the media found so insignificant as to even look into it).

Nor did the person who broke the Bush DUI story end up dead.
What did I miss? I thought the Ebersol comment was flattering in that it mentioned President Bush "really did know the facts" about Olympic Security issues. But the headline implies that Ebersol "... Had His Fill of Bush in College."
Just another reason why I won't be watching the Olympics.
Retired Senator Alan Simpson (WY) once said that he thought beer was food when he was in college. It is true, beer is food.
Is it just me, or does the headline not match the story?
This reminds me of that headline:
"Fellow boatmates had fill of Kerry in Vietnam"
Oops forgot, the lamestream media decided not to run that story.
