ALBUQUERQUE — Counting on his liberal base to stick by him, Sen. John F. Kerry plans to aggressively court more conservative voters with a message that emphasizes traditional values of service, faith and family.

Following his pick last week of a running mate with potential appeal to rural communities, the presumed Democratic presidential nominee said he was not content to target the narrow band of swing voters that the two parties were expected to fight over in roughly 20 swing states.

"I'm going to talk to people on the right," Kerry told The Times on Friday during a joint interview with his vice presidential pick, Sen. John Edwards. "I want to talk to conservatives."

As for rank-and-file party members, Kerry said his record of strong support for environmental protection, gun control and abortion rights — all core Democratic issues — "speaks for itself about my priorities in policy terms."

Indeed, Kerry seemed unconcerned about antagonizing his liberal supporters.

"I'm a hunter. I'm a gun owner. A lot of people on the left don't like that, but that's who I am," he said.

The Massachusetts senator has already begun his effort to broaden his political reach. During a recent swing through the Midwest, where he tramped around farms and toted a shotgun on a trap-shooting range, Kerry said that he represented "conservative values," and emphasized his personal opposition to abortion.

Even granting your premise that Bush will nominate conservative and pro-life judges, there's still the problem of a gutless/RINO GOP Senate majority that lets the Dims shoot down any judge they don't happen to like.

What's worse is they let about 10 neobolshevik fascists (the left-wing extremists on the J-Committee) shoot down good people the President nominates.

Well .. he'd better be careful about those VAST RIGHT WING CRAZIES .. he might just be missing a hand.

What a pandering, condescending creep! He has nothing to offer to the RIGHT. Kerry's determined to put me into a box called [right] .. and all the while I thought I WAS A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES. Go figure!!

The two wealthiest liberals in America think they can fool conservatives with some slick marketing? They must think we're dumb enough to fall for a ruse like that, where they label themselves conservatives while reassuring their own party's Left they are committed to higher taxes, abortion on demand, and reverse racism. Oh sure, to liberals a Kerry
"conservative" is someone committed to bigger government and higher spending. LMAO!

Phony Talk from Kerry and Edwards. Watch Their Votes, Not What They Say. Then vote accordingly.

President Bush is MORE conservative than John F*ckin.' Unfortunately the purists will vote to put a Hard Leftist in the White House cause the President doesn't meet their pristine expectations of what a conservative ought to do. We live in a country where at most, we can get 80% of what we want and some people aren't happy cause they didn't get the rest of the loaf. The culture is pushing Left. We have to get more than Democrats do in power cause they don't need to get as much done. They have already enlisted every one else under their banner. And some conservatives want to see Bush go down cause he's made some mistakes. Should John F*ckin' win in November, these folks will bitch over the next four years the fellow in the White House is a disaster and they'll never admit to their role in bringing him there. Take time to ponder that before you say the President isn't your ideal conservative being our President.

IOW, when he speaks to liberal audiences, he's not a hunter, has never been one, and doesn't own a gun.

George W. Bush will win reelection by a margin of at least ten per cent.

I wouldn't punish the Heinz brand. There are a lot of people who work for Heinz that having nothing to do with the gigolo and/or the African-American-widow-heiress.

And if we all want to be honest here, Heinz is a far better ketchup than Hunt's.
