Please join us for the August 1 FReeper visit to the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. We are going to be meeting for breakfast in Simi Valley at 8:30 am. The location will be decided upon once we get a better idea of our headcount. We'll will then head over to the library to visit the facility and pay our respects to President Reagan. And then over to Rabid Dog's house for an afternoon of conservative debauchery and Bar-b-que.
Today's thread includes the following four questions/considerations:
1. There is a modest admission fee of $5.00 to $7.00 depending upon the age and wisdom of the attendee. This fee also include the cost of a 1.5 hour optional tour. How many of you are interested in the tour? I want to give them a heads up so they can line up the docents. We will be broken down into groups of 12 to 15 people. The tour is optional and not everyone has to participate.
2. If you are coming from out of town, please indicate so and if you are interested in carpooling, please let us know so that interested FReepers can freepmail you to coordinate.
3. If you are on the fence about going on the trip, please ask to be put on the ping list anyway. I'll be doing a final headcount in a couple of weeks.
4. If you can't go, but would like to have a note placed at President Reagan's gravesite, please Freepmail me and I will give you my address.
Maybe we can get Jim to say a few words?
Probably not.
I( will be there, but I won't be making any speeches.
Gramps & I will be there, add two more cats to the herd. We're gonna go up the night before and would LOVE to do the tour.
THANKS for organizing this!!!
BTW, the back of the SUV will be empty, so if two want to ride along, from OC...let us know.
That would be lovely but I'm a little worried you might want to sing one of your songs. Sometimes they can get a little - well - inappropriate! I supposed we could always we can drown you out with the bagpipes!
Bob J. - I know you might not be able to make it, but if you do - will you speak as well? Maybe you can introduce Doug from Upland?
D1, do you think you could post a couple of maps on how to get there. Maybe one from the 101/23 approach freeway and another from the 118? Thanks!
Ronaldus Magnus bump...
Trust me, I have thought about it for a long time. I will have some very good words for the greatest president of the 20th Century.
I know you will! You'll be perfect and thanks for stepping up to the plate!
Done.
I'm interested in the tour and all other functions.
In what way/manner can we contribute, especially for the bar-b-que?
Count two from Ventura, with or without carpool. Don't need the tour but will love to 'talk' afterwards.
I'm not quite sure how this is going to be handled yet - need to talk to the Ventura County Chapter members. What we don't want is people bringing side dishes from far away places! Barbeque details will be the next thread!
Note to all lurkers.
If you are interested in going to the Library, please consider becoming a member so that you can get all the details of the trip. I lurked for two years before signing up because I was worried I would get a lot of spam, etc. or that my privacy would be impinged. That won't happen. I have been a member for a number of years now and can attest to that as will anyone else on this thread.
You wouldn't want to eat my cooking in any event.
I was thinking of perhaps a donation into a cash pool to offset expenses, etc.
Main point is, I'll help any way I can.
Ping!
I can coordinate the service. What would the piper like to play, and how many/names wish to speak?
I can confirm two of us for breakfast, tour & BBQ. Will bring cold soft drinks to Rabid's house.
I will bribe the piper (as always) and he will whine and moan, but in the end he'll play or his wife will hurt him. Bagpipes have a very limited range (8 notes), so the standard bagpipe rep will have to do. I'm assuming most folks will want 'Amazing Grace' as that is what they are familiar with. Any suggestions?
