I might be a little naive, but I don't believe in the suitcase bomb threat.

Nukes are so hard to come by due to the refining of enriched uranium, that it's always been fairly easy to detect those trying to develop a bomb.

That leaves known nuclear states to produce those bombs.

And micro-bombs are even harder to produce.

That leaves major nuclear states.

I agree, though. If we get nuked, then we nuke back. It's the only way to play the game.

I hope you are right. However, even before I heard that Bin Laden had declared war on the US, I had heard that there were a large number of tactical nuclear weapons that were unaccounted for after the fall of the USSR. As far as I know they still are unaccounted for. Back then Bin Laden had the money to buy them on the black market. So did Saddam.

So where the heck are they?

Yes, but Nuke Who...Iran,Mecca,China,Russia,A mosqe in NYC ?
You see the point...The enemy is within and therefore we have no way of knowing who they are. The only real chance is to clean house in the US and that is not going to happen. And so we will suffer grave consequences without knowing just who to retaliate against. Would you let a murderer or a rapist live in your house?...or his freinds? As a country we have people that hate us and they are free to rome among us. The door is wide open for them to enter. This is the our modern day tower of babble...do you know what happened to the first?

Hmmm..not so sure about 'dat.

The suitcase nuke situation has been pretty extensively documented, by some pretty respected/smart people.

There's been Congressional testimony, CIA analysis, documentation up the "ying yang" that the "suitcase" (ie: tactical) nuke was developed by both the US & USSR.

Many are missing from the USSR (as explained by defecting USSR General Lebed, who "mysteriously" died in a 'copter crash shortly after testifying to this fact before Congress).

As someone else said..where did they go? Money can buy just about anything - and AQ/Osama reportedly have BILLIONS from their drug trafficking.

I for one think they probably have them. The real question becomes..have they been able to maintain them? Given former Ruskie nuke scientists go for the low, bargain basement price of about $1,000 US/month..I'd say the answer (unfortunately) is YEP.
